Our next unit of study in Writer's Workshop will be on Personal Essays. Writers will have an opportunity to shift their writing from small moments (narratives) to BIG ideas (non-narratives). For the next couple of months, they will live as essayists, gathering the things they notice in their lives and transforming them into focused ideas. Writers will learn how to take their ideas, compose a clear, concise thesis statement and generate reasons to support their idea to eventually become one cohesive expository writing piece. We are looking forward to another successful unit in Writer's Workshop. Our first unit in writing focused on getting back into the habits of good writers. Students will be decorating a Writer's Notebook with pictures, words, and other images that spark memories for them. Student reviewed and learned a few new straegies for generating ideas for small moment personal narratives (small moment stories). We collected many entries in our notebook before choosing a draft, revise, edit, and publish. Please feel free to stop by and see our published writings on the bulletin board outside room 12. Writing Homework: Students are required to write in their Writer's Notebooks for ten minutes Monday through Thursday nights (should be about a half of a page). The writing will be a continuation from the entry they were working on in class, or he/she may start a new entry. Writer's Notebooks are handed in once per month.
