My name is Miss Mayer and this is my first year here at JFK Memorial High School. I am excited to utilize this opportunity for my own growth as a teacher as well as my student's academic growth. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and am ready to join you on your journey through United States History I!

My expectations and grading policies will be given out in class and expected to be kept in your binder for future reference. I have included a link on the "Resources" page so you can refer to it online, as well. All homework will be posted on my TeacherWeb and therefore, if absent, please check this site so you do not fall behind! Everything should be up here for you and I am always available to address any questions and/or concerns before or after school in the Social Studies resource room (upstairs) unless otherwise notified. Lets make this year a great one!

Mission Statement:

I believe that all children are entitled to a fair and full education. Schools should be safe and conducive for learning. I believe that equality in education is vital for equal opportunity for all people regardless of race, gender or ethnicity. Education should foster an understanding in students the need to learn, grow and develop into active members of our society. As a Social Studies teacher, it is my job to not only teach concepts of history, but also concepts of citizenship and the importance of being committed to making the world a better place to be. Differentiated instruction and a layered curriculum contributes to this because is an important tool to use in order to grab the attention of all types of students, keeping them engaged and active in the classroom as much as possible. In order to make the students care about their education, they need to be shown that they can excel in the classroom and differentiated instruction allows that to happen. I also believe in the similar treatment of all students as far as grading, relationships and participation in class. No student should feel neglected of an education and it is my duty to inspire their educational goals and encourage them to strive for the highest education possible.
