Mr. Schreck entered teaching after a 20 plus year career in business. His
career began as an auditor in a non-profit environment. He then moved into
General Accounting and ultimately to Financial and Business Analysis in a
corporate environment at Fortune 100 companies primarily in the High Tech
Industry spending 15 years at Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq
Computer Corporation followed by 3 years spent at Johnson and Johnson.
He began his teaching career in the Plainfield School District prior to
coming on board here at JFK High School in 2006.
College Prep (CP)Accounting
College Prep Accounting is a one semester course designed to focus on the
environment in which accounting information is derived and developed as much
as the actual accounting transactions and concepts themselves. Emphasis is
placed upon the intrepretation and use of the accounting information.
The course works with a college level text which develops students critical
thinking and communication skills. Activities are planned to expand students
study habits that will enable them to develop a self-disciplined approach to
learning.

Accounting 1
Accounting 1 is a semester course designed to stress analysis,
interpretation and processing of financial information. The student will
develop an understanding of accounting concepts and procedures for
businesses organized as sole proprietorships and corporations.
The course will develop an understanding of both manual and computer-based
accounting cycles with an emphasis on accounting software throughout.
Students will acquire the basic background essential for work in an entry-
level accounting position. Related career topics will be introduced and
discussed.

Personal Finacial Literacy
This course will develop skills and strategies that promote personal and
financial responsibility related to financial planning, savings, investment,
and charitable giving in the global economy.
Students will complete projects and activities from a variety of print and
Internet-based media resources to help them make sound financial decisions
affecting themselves, their country, and future generations.
From shopping to investing, students will learn to ensure that they make
responsible decisions with regards to their personal finances.
This course is designed to fulfill the NJ State mandate for financial
literacy standards.

There will not be a traditional text book utilized for this course.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
Students enrolled in this hands-on course will attain computer literacy
skills using a personal computer and desktop application software. Students
will learn basic computer terminology and the role of computers in society.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to understand and
communicate in basic computer terminology; formulate opinions about the
impact of computers on society; integrate software applications into life and
schoolwork; manage files and folders; create, format and edit word
processing, spreadsheet, and multimedia presentation documents; access and
evaluate Internet-based information; use email to communicate effectively;
and enhance language arts skills throughout the course.
