ACADEMIC BIOLOGY
GENETICS RESEARCH PAPER
REQUIREMENTS
1.Three typed pages, double-spaced on a topic relating to genetics. Font
should be "Times New Roman". Size should be "12 point".
2.A title page following the given format.
3.A Bibliography page following the given format. A minimum of 4 sources
must
be used, limited to one general encyclopedia. At least two of your sources
must be Internet sources. At least one source must from a magazine,
newspaper, or book.
4.Proper paragraph form, grammar and punctuation should be used.
5.Material should be properly documented using parenthetical citations.
6.Handouts and directions will be provided for each aspect of your paper.
7.All computer printouts and research materials must be submitted with your
final paper. Information from books, magazines, etc. must be photocopied
and
submitted as well. Your final report will not be accepted without this
information.
PROCEDURE
STEP 1 Choose a topic relating to genetics. The topic can be one of the
topics suggested or any other current topic having a direct relevance to
genetics.

STEP 2 Locate sources: internet, magazines, books, newspaper articles. It
is suggested that you first read and obtain information on your topic from a
general source such as an encyclopedia so that you have a basic
understanding
of your topic. Then consult sources more specific in nature.
STEP 3 Make a photocopy of any source that is not a computer printout that
you intend to use. These must be submitted with your report.
STEP 4 Read and highlight important information from sources.
STEP 5 Take notes from highlighted material.
STEP 6 Organize information using an outline.

STEP 9 Type the final copy of your paper. Computers throughout the school
and in the library will be available on a first come, first served basis.

This is a major research project that will be worth 20% of your
fourth quarter grade. Due to the large number of students participating in
this research project, you are encouraged to access the library as soon as
possibe.
A total of 5 points will be deducted from the final score of the
report for each day that it is late.
Instructions for each aspect of the report will be given in class.
If
absent for those instructions, it is the student's responsibility to find
out
what was missed and to obtain any handouts that may have been given.
