"Good Readers" think and use strategies while they are reading. In class I have been introducing new ways to think while reading. Please encourage your reader to try different strategies while reading. Reading Strategies 1. Look at the pictures 2. Look at the first letter and get your mouth ready. 3. Say "blank" and think about the words that would makes sense. (Context Clues) 4. Look for word chunks you know. 5. Look for small words inside big words. 6. Look for special word endings or beginnings. 7. Check for a rhyming pattern. 8. Check for a repeating pattern. The children should also be making inferences while they are reading. We tell them that they should try to figure out what the author means or what we can figure out with the information we have.
