Each year, the Student Assistance Specialist will run groups that are designed to meet the needs of our students. The Student Assistance Specialist will run three groups at LBS each year. Newcomer's Club This group involves any student who is new to Lawrence Brook School. It is for students in 1st-5th grade. The club meets by grade level for lunch. This allows students to meet the Student Assistance Specialist as well as other students who are also new to the school. Individual follow-ups throughout the year are also done by the Student Assistance Specialist. This group does not require a permission slip and all new students are invited to attend. Friendship Club This group will focus on improving social skills, coping skills for different feelings, communication skills, and self esteem. A parent may request his or her child attend this group or a teacher may recommend a student for the group. A permission slip is required for attendance. This group meets once a week for approximately 6-8 weeks. Rainbow Club Students who are experiencing a parental divorce or separation are invited to attend this group. This group is not designed as therapy as it will not diagnose or solve problems, but instead will deal with normal feelings associated with a very stressful life event. Parents are encouraged to contact me if this is an issue your child is currently dealing with or may in the future. The Rainbow Club can offer acceptance, understanding and an exploration of a child’s own coping skills. A permission slip is required for attendance. The group will meet once weekly, during school hours, for six weeks. The following groups may also be necessary to meet the needs of the students. Anger Management Group Bereavement Group If you feel your child would benefit from any of these groups, please contact me. I look forward to helping you and your family in any way that I can.
