Homework

Expect homework Monday - Thursday, Special homework given on Friday.

Weekly Assignments:
Homework is sent home in a packet on Monday.  The packet contains four pages, 1 page for each night of the week.  Homework is to be turned in every single day!!  Please be sure that your child writes his/her name on every paper.
   * On Fridays, you will receive a Sound Bag labeled with the "Letter of the Week."  Students are
to search for pictures that begin with the "Letter of the Week" in magazines, newspapers or
printable images from the web.  They will cut these out, and bring them back to school on
Tuesday.  These pictures are then glued in our Picture Dictionaries as part of a center activity.
Example: Letter of the Week: Cc
Find pictures of a: Cat, Car, Candy, etc...

Monthly Writing Journals:
At the end of each month, writing journals will be sent home for your child to draw a picture and write a few sentences about something that happened during that month.  Your child should use invented spelling (listening to all the sounds in the words and writing the letters that they hear).  Spelling the words out for your child will not encourage independent spelling skills.

Math

Please make sure to work on the daily activities that are on each month's Home Link Calendar.  Some homework sheets will occasionally be sent home.  They do not need to be returned to school unless it states it in the directions.

Reading
Book baggies will start coming home after we have started guided reading.  These will be sent home in the daily folders and should be sent back to school the very next day.

While it is important to provide support for your child while he/she is doing homework, please have your child do all of the writing, coloring, cutting, etc... on his/her own.  Giving them too much support or doing the work for your child will prevent him/her from developing the independent skills that are crucial for success in school.

Homework assignments are designed to extend work in the classroom.  Practicing skills at home is essential to a child's academic success.  Please take the time to work with your child.
