We're Excited About Fall
The students are well on their way! We have really started to get into the swing of things, and are excited about all of the learning that we have been doing in such a short amount of time. Your help with getting the students comfortable with school has really helped them get adjusted quickly.
More and more each day the children are becoming very independent students. They all seem to be very proud of what they can do all on their own. Please continue to help your child become more independent both at school and at home. Some ways you can help at home are as follows:
- Opening snacks and drinks on his/her own
- Taking care of bathroom needs
- Putting on his/her own jackets
- Zippering/buttoning his/her own jackets and backpacks
- Making sure they have everything they need for school (homework, library books)
Remember - we have only 10 minutes for snack, please send in only ONE HEALTHY snack. We have snack time every day except on half days. Please remember to send in a healthy snack. We use snack time to talk about nutrition.
ILA (Language Arts):
This month we will be focusing on concept books and generating lists in our Reader's and Writer's Workshops. In doing this we will be focusing on learning how to choose books with a partner, make predictions about the books and discuss them with their partners. They will also be making lists of fall items and writing sentences to go with our lists. These sentences will be put together to create class books.
Some of our special read alouds will include: Firefighters from A to Z, Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree, Ten Apples on Top, and Leaves
Math:
This month we will be working more on the numbers 1-10, identifying and sorting shapes, using pattern blocks, playing spinner games and board games to help us with our number recognition and one-to-one correspondence.
Please also make sure to work on the daily activities from the October Home Link.
Science:
We will be continuing our observation work on the trees as they change in the fall season. We will also be working on our tree-part booklet. We will match labels of tree words to the parts on the tree and make a tree drawing for the cover of our booklet.
Social Studies:
Our class will continue learning all about friendship, and honesty. We will also be learning about some of the special holidays and people that we celebrate during in the fall season.
