MEDICATION GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS
School nurses are not permitted to dispense medication without a doctor's
written order. A doctor may prescribe medication that can be given to a
student during school hours. Guidelines are as follows:
*only written orders from doctors are acceptable. The order should contain
complete information about the medication to be given, including name of the
medication, date, dosage, times, and reactions that may occur. A written
note from parents/guardians must accompany the order.
*medication must be in the original pharmacy labeled bottle with the
student's name, medicine identification, dosage, time to be given and dates.
*parents/guardians should bring the medication to the nurse along with the
notes from them and the doctor. CHILDREN MUST NOT CARRY THEIR OWN MEDICATION.
*ALL OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUGS ARE TO BE HANDLED THE SAME AS PRESCRIBED DRUGS. MEDICATION GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

MEDICATIONS ON CLASS TRIPS:
*it is your prerogative to have your child do without a medication, or
to "hold off" until returning to school, but this determination must be
supported by a physician. Your physician could write a note to this effect.
(a fax is acceptable).
*parents may opt to acccompany their child on the trip to give medication.
(If necessary, transportation and expenses may be incurred by the parent.)
*parents may make outside arrangements with another parent who will be
attending the trip to give his/her child the medication. These arrangements
cannot be made through the school, nor can the student's medication come from
the nurse's office.
*if none of the above arrangements will be made for your child to receive
medication, please call and inform the school nurse. MEDICATIONS ON CLASS TRIPS:
