Hello Families!
In math, we are working on measuring and comparing length using customary units of measure - feet (ft) and inches (in). The test is scheduled for Friday, May 10. Please make sure that you review with your child on a nightly basis to make sure that he/she does not fall behind during these short chapters. Keep in mind that each lesson builds on the previous lesson. We will begin our study of time next.
In language arts, we have been learning about opinion, or persuasive, writing pieces. Students have been practicing using a variety of topics to identify their opinion, state reasons for their opinions, and provide examples to support their reasons. Last week, students wrote their rough drafts. This week we will be editing and revising them. We will also begin our next Grammar unit on Adjectives and will try to incorporate our knowledge of descriptive words into our revising!
In social studies, we are working on our map skills. We have identified the differences between a map and a globe, identified the different points of view of a location, and are hard at work on using a map key to "unlock the secrets - shhh!" of a map. Last week, we discussed natural and cultural features that we may find on a map. This week we will discuss writing directions and using direction words to help us. The Unit 3 Social Studies test is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15.
We will begin our next science unit on Plants at the end of this week.
