Homework 3rd Grade

3rd Grade homework is a step up from 2nd grade homework!

Please complete all word wall word homework in your child's word work notebook and return to school each day.

Your child will also receive a "Word Wall Word"/ ILA homework calendar at the beginning of each month from all of the third grade teachers. (See helpful documents)Please do not have your child do all their homework in one night as this defeats the purpose of working with the words each night of the week. Word wall word checks will be given almost every Friday to see what words they have mastered. Previous words will be added, randomly to current word checks since your child should be learning these words after working with them extensively each week. Our goal is to teach students to understand patterns and meaning in words that will help them spell and understand other words. If your child is unclear as to what is expected of them or instructions are unclear to you, feel free to write me a note, and I will do my best to assist you and your child to meet success.

Reading each and every night is a requirement for all third graders. They will be receiving a homework grade for reading which will be part of their grade for reading on their report card. Parents/guardians are required to sign their child's monthly reading calendar each night since they will be checked daily in my room. Encourage your child to fill out their reading log nightly when they read so all you have to do is sign it. Some children in past years read in the morning for 20-30 minutes before leaving for school, whatever works best for your family is fine. If your child reads everynight for the entire month (weekends included) they will not only receive an "A+" but will also receive a homework pass to be used in my room on any homework, except reading responses. Reading responses are a great way to practice reading strategies they are learning in class on a just right book that they are reading independently or with a guided reading book that we are reading both at school, and at home. Your child should be able to complete this independently with minimum assistance from you. They will be assigned for HW throughout the month.

Thank you in advance for your support with all and any homework. If your child has extreme difficulty completing any assignments, please feel free to email me or write it on your child's homework to bring it to my attention.
