Motion to call the meeting to order at 7:34pm by Patty Hoffman

SEPTA report:

Amy Geoffroy – SEPTA president elect and Memorial Parent Liason

October 7th – first SEPTA meeting at the Library

Special Ed supervisor will be speaking and making a presentation.

President’s report:

What keeps parent home on meeting nights? – Babysitting is a huge issue.

We’ll be having Youth Council Members presents at the meetings to care for children, do homework, play games, etc.  There are currently approximately 672 youth council members.

We’ll be having speakers and other guests on important topics.

Also, new for this year; the Volunteer Tree – set up in the lobby.  Children will receive a leaf if a parent attends a meeting and/or volunteers for an event.  Also they can earn their own leaf if they do some work that will offered to them.

New initiatives include speakers to the PTA on topics such as Internet safety and cyber-bullying prevention.

Fundraising report:

Jennifer Harmon said they can use any help offered, from making and distributing flyers to more fundraising ideas.

Membership report:

142 families so far.  Will get more on Friday at the Ice Cream Social.  

Principal’s report:

First week of school – no issues to report.  Thanks to the PTA for the Dunkin’ Donuts last week.

Gene Ryan from the Memorial PTA  had signs donated that name each floor (the names were voted on last school year on election day.

September 29th is the bond referendum vote and the kids will be voting in school that day also and getting a sticker to remind the parents to vote that night on the Bond Referendum.

Clubs are on track for this year: 11 clubs.  Each club needs 10 members to run. 

School activities: RAP (Reading as Partners) in the first grade (parent volunteers read with the kids); Count on Me – parents volunteer in 2nd and 3rd grade to come to school and do Math Skills.  Math Café being set up by Mrs. Dreagger.  Memorial will be hosting a Science Fair in the Spring, the teachers have formed a committee.  The Pumpkins from the Pumpkin Patch will be brought to Art class and decorated.  First assembly is Tuesday September 22, 2009. 

There are 352 students.  Also the Board of Ed is hosting a reception on September 29, 2009 at 8:30 to await the results of the Bond Referendum (at the Admin Building 760 Route 18).

Committees:

Monster Mash and Pumpkin Patch are both holding meetings at Memorial (80 David Street) on October 1st at 7pm.  Gene Ryan has gotten a vendor to donate hundreds and Pumpkins and each child will be visiting the Pumpkin Patch during school on October 20th with their class to pick a pumpkin.  Monster Mash will be held Friday October 30, 2009.

New business:

Motion to accept Chris Levine as the Corresponding Secretary:

Motioned by Ronnie Walsh, seconded by Jennifer Harmon; carried unanimously.

Motion to approve the Budget:

Motioned by Jennifer Harmon, seconded by Chris Levine; carried unanimously.

Creation of auditing committee:

2 independent bodies needed to check receipts, books, check requests, non-Board members.

Announcements:

Ice Cream Social – purchased from Kwality (formerly Roscoe’s) in Milltown.  We need more volunteers as scoopers, please bring your own scoopers; youth council volunteers will also scoop.
