A reminder that this Wednesday evening, November 18 at 7:00PM we will be 
having the annual Fall Sports Awards in the school gymnasium. All should be 
in attendance dressing appropriately. Congratualtions again on an excellent 
Varsity and J.V. season!

OUR LAST PRACTICE OF THE 2009 SEASON WILL BE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON FROM 2:30 
UNTIL 5:00, WITH PIZZA AND SODA!  MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR UNIFORMS IN BY 
FRIDAY!

The Mother Seton Varsity Volleyball team bowed out of the NJSIAA Non-Public 
State Tournament 16-25, 16-25 to #4 Roselle Catholic.  Junior Laura 
Fernandez collected 7 kills and 7 digs, Junior Lauren Mateo had 6 kills and 
4 digs while Senior Ashlee Foster contributed with 9 assists and 6 digs.  
The Varsity ended their season at 20-8, made their 3rd straight NJSIAA 
tournament appearance, advanced to the Quarterfinals of the state 
tournament, the SemiFinals of the GMCT and won the GMC White Division for 
the second straight season.  A fantastic job to Coach Tom Moran and the 
Varsity athletes.  Their will be a season ending practice on Friday 
afternoon from 2:30 to 4:00 with a pizza party until 5:00!

The Varsity advanced to the Quarterfinal Round of the NJSIAA Non-Public 
State Tournament with a dominating 25-9, 25-10 victory over #12 Oak Knoll 25-
9, 25-10.  Junior Laura Fernandez collected 6 kills and 9 digs with 3 aces, 
Junior Lauren Mateo had 5 kills and 2 aces, while Junior Paige Tannenhaus 
amassed 9 service points with 4 aces.  The Varsity is now 20-7 and travels 
to #4 seed Roselle Catholic on Tuesday, November 10th.  Good Luck girls!

The J.V. Volleyball team are Union County Champions as the defeated #1 
Roselle Catholic in the UCT Final 17-25, 26-24, 25-19.  An exhilirating 
match left the Setters alone on top.  A great season capped with a great 
tournament title.  Congratulations J.V. on a beautiful season.  They 
finished with a 24-1 record.  WOOF WOOF!!!

JUNIOR LAUREN MATEO AND JUNIOR LAURA FERNANDEZ HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO THE GMC 
ALL CONFERNECE TEAM AND ALL GMC WHITE DIVISION TEAM.  CONGRATS GIRLS!

The Varsity has been seeded #5 in the NJSIAA Non-Public State Tournament.  
They will host next week #12 seeded Oak Knoll in a Quaterfinal Round 
matchup.  Good Luck girls!

The Varsity lost a tough battle to Colonia 25-23, 21-25, 15-25. Junior 
Lauren Mateo collected 8 kills and Junior Laura Fernandez had 6 kills and 3 
aces.  Sophomore Sara Coehlo had 6 digs to lead the Setters defensively.  
The Varsity is now 19-7.

In a thrilling match the J.V. battled back from a second set defeat and a 7-
0 deficit in the 3rd set to beat #2 Union 25-17, 11-25, 25-23 in the 
Semifinal Round of the J.V. Union County Tournament.  Junior Brianna Velez 
had 5 kills and 2 blocks while collecting the final 3 service points.  
Junior Paige Tannenhaus had 3 kills and 4 digs, Junior Raquel Molina served 
well to bring the Setters back into the game with 4 aces, Junior Kate Dooley 
had 4 kills and 5 digs and Sophomore Lauren Jimenez had 4 assists and 2 
blocks.  The J.V. is now 23-1 and will play for the UCT Championship at 
6:00PM at Union Catholic H.S. against #1 seeded Roselle Catholic.  Good Luck 
girls!

The Varsity's hopes for a GMCT Championship came to a halt Monday as they 
lost to #1 seeded East brunswick 25-10, 25-12.  Junior Laura Fernandez 
collected 6 kills and 5 digs while Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster 
contributed with 6 assists and 4 digs.  The Varsity is now 19-6 and awaits 
the pairings of the NJSIAA State Tournament this week!

The J.V. advanced into the Semifinal Round of the UCT by defeating #11 
Westfield 25-12, 25-14 in the 1st Round and defeated #3 Union Catholic 25-
14, 25-21 in the Quarterfinal Round.  Junior Paige Tannenhaus served 10 aces 
and had 3 kills and 4 digs, Junior Kate Dooley had 7 kills and 3 aces, 
Sophomore Brianna Velez had 5 kills and 1 block and 5 aces, Sophomore Liz 
Solan had 4 assists and Sophomore Lauren Jimenez had 5 assists.  Junior 
Raquel Molina had 4 aces with Freshman Amanda Krause providing 3 kills.  
Sophomore Megan McClaren collected 4 digs and an ace to seal the victory for 
Mother Seton J.V. team!  They are now 22-1 and will play #2 seeded Union at 
Roselle Catholic at 5:30PM on Tuesday evening, good luck girls!

The Setters advanced into the Semifinal Round of the GMCT with a convincing 
23-25, 25-13, 25-13 defeat of J.P. Stevens.  Junior Lauren Mateo collected 
11 kills and 4 blocks, Junior Jouvianne Alexandre had 6 kills and 2 blocks, 
Junior Laura Fernandez had 6 kills and 7 digs with 3 aces, Sophomore Noelle 
Maertz had 11 assists and 7 digs with 3 aces and Senior Co-Captain Ashlee 
Foster had 9 assists and 2 aces.  The Varsity is now 19-5 and takes on #1 
Seeded East Brunswick away at 5:00PM on Monday.  Good Luck girls! 

The Varsity defeated Timothy Christian on Monday and on Wednesday afternoon 
defeated Holy Family as they raised there record to 18-5.  The Varsity now 
strives to run through the GMCT as they begin in the Quarterfinal Round 
against #5 J.P. Stevens this afternoon at 4:00PM  Come out and support your 
team!  The J.V. also defeated Timothy Christian and Holy Family to close out 
the regular season at 20-1.  They gear up for Saturday's showdown against 
#11 Westfield in the First Round of the UCT.  Good Luck girls!

The J.V. have been seeded #6 in the UCT which will start on Saturday October 
24th at the Rahway Recreation Center.  Check the schedule for times.

The Setters defeated Piscataway in a tight match 25-23, 25-21.  Junior 
Lauren Mateo collected 3 blocks, 6 kills and 3 aces while Sophomore Noelle 
Maertz had 6 digs and 9 assists, Senior Co-Captain Caitlin Sarnicki had 6 
digs and 3 kills, Junior Laura Fernandez had 5 kills and 4 digs, while 
Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster had 4 kills, 5 digs, and 3 aces.  The 
Varsity is now 16-5.  The J.V. continued to win as they beat Piscataway 25-
12, 25-8.  Freshman Taylor Loughlin had 4 digs, Sophomore Napooma James had 
3 digs and 2 aces, Sophomore Katie Cymbaluk had 2 digs, Sophomore Megan 
McClaren had 2 kills, 4 aces and 4 digs.  The J.V. is now 18-1.

The Varsity defeated Edison 25-14, 25-19 as Junior Kate Dooley collected 10 
kills and contributed with 3 aces.  Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 11 assists 
and 2 aces while Senior Co-Captain had 4 aces and 6 assists.  The Varsity is 
now 15-5.  The J.V. also defeated Edison 25-20, 25-23.  Sophomore Megan 
McClaren had 4 digs, 3 aces and 2 kills, Junior Raquel Molina collected 3 
aces and 3 kills.  Sophomore Lauren Jimenez and Briana Velez had a block 
each as the J.V. raised their record to 17-1.

The Varsity stormed back with a two match win against Rahway and J.P. 
Stevens yesterday.  Against Rahway the Setters won 25-14, 17-25, 25-16.  In 
the J.P. Stevens contest they won 25-20, 25-16.  In both games Sophomore 
Noelle Maertz collected 22 digs and 20 assists, while Junior Laura Fernadez 
also played well with 18 digs and 14 kills.  Junior Kate Dooley had 10 kills 
and 3 aces, Junior Lauren Mateo had 3 blocks and 9 kills with 6 digs.  
Junior Paige Tannenhaus served the Setters back against Rahway with a 4 aces 
performance.  The Varsity is now 14-5.  The J.V. also played strong as the 
defeated Rahway 25-21, 25-15 and defeated J.P. Stevens 25-12, 25-23.  
Playing well was Sophomore Megan McClaren who had 6 aces and 2 kills, 
Sophomore Brianna Velez had 4 kills and 2 aces, Freshman Taylor Loughlin had 
3 digs and Junior Raquel Molina had 4 aces and 3 kills.  Sophomore Liz Solan 
had 4 digs and 5 assists, while Sophomore Lauren Jimenez had 3 assists.  The 
J.V. improved to 16-1.

The Setters lost two tough battles to East Brunswick 21-25, 19-25 and 
Eastern 20-25, 16-25 in a Tri-Match at East Brunswick yesterday.  Collecting 
a total of 12 kills was Junior Laura Fernandez and Junior Kate Dooley 
collected 8 kills while Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 14 digs and Senior Co-
Captain Ashlee Foster had 4 kills, 12 assists and 10 digs.  The Varsity is 
now 12-5 and looks to rebound with another Tri-Match against J.P. Stevens of 
Edison and Rahway at J.P. Stevens on Monday afternoon 4:00PM start.

CHAMPIONS!!!  The Varsity overcame a 9-1 deficit to start the 2nd match and 
defeated Monroe 25-16, 25-20 to win their 2nd consecutive GMC White Division 
Championship!  Combining hitting and passing the Setters followed the 
motto, "Good Things Come To Those Who Hustle".  Senior Co-Captain Caitlin 
Sarnicki along with Sophomore Noelle Maertz and Junior Lauren Mateo 
collected 29 digs collectively, while Senior Co-Captian Ashlee Foster placed 
4 aces and 9 assists.  Junior Jouvianne Alexandre had 4 kills and a dig, 
Junior Laura Fernandez had 8 kills and 3 aces with 8 digs, Sophomore Libero 
Sara Coehlo added 5 digs and Junior Paige Tannenhaus paced the serving with 
4 service points and 2 digs.  The Varsity is now 12-3 and is gearing up for 
the GMC Tournament!  The J.V. came out strong and delivered a loss to Monroe 
25-15, 25-10.  Junior Paige Tannehaus had 3 kills and 3 digs, Junior Kate 
Dooley collected 4 kills and 3 aces, Sophomore Brianna Velez had 3 kills and 
5 aces, Sophomore Megan McClaren had 2 kills and 2 aces with 3 digs, 
Freshman Jahnavi Kosaraju had 2 service points and a dig, Freshman Amanda 
Fullem had 2 kills and an ace while Sophomore Liz Solan had 5 assists.  The 
J.V. are now 14-1 and also achieved a division championship by not losing to 
a divisional opponent!  Congrats to all Girls!  CHAMPIONS!!! 

The Varsity lost a close match at Colonia 25-21, 21-25, 24-26.  Senior Co-
Captain Caitlin Sarnicki collected 10 kills and 3 digs with 3 aces and 
Junior Paige Tannenhaus served the Setters back into the game with 2 aces 
and had 3 digs.  The Varsity looks to rebound and come out strong tomorrow 
as they face Monroe for the GMC White Division title.  They are now 11-3.  
The J.V. outplayed Colonia 25-20, 25-16.  Sophomore Brianna Velez had 3 
kills and 4 aces, Junior Kate Dooley had 4 kills and 3 aces, Freshman Taylor 
Loughlin had 3 digs and Sophomore Lauren Jimenez had 3 assists and 1 kill.  
The J.V. is now 13-1.

The Setters came out and defeated New Brunswick yesterday 25-16, 25-21.  
Junior Lauren Mateo collected a season high 12 kills and had 2 blocks and 4 
aces.  Junior Laura Fernandez had 5 digs and 3 aces, Sophomore Noelle Maertz 
had 9 digs and 7 assists, while Junior Jouvianne Alexandre had 4 kills and 1 
block.  The Varsity is now 1 divisional win away from a division 
championship.  Their record is now 11-2.  The J.V. also defeated New 
Brunswick 25-18, 25-23.  Junior Kate Dooley had 4 kills and 3 aces, Freshman 
Jahnavi Kosaraju had 2 digs, Freshman Angelicka Wilczek had 2 digs and an 
ace, Sophomores Drew Denton and Katie Czymbaluk had a kill a piece while 
Sophomore Kelly Griffin had a dig.  The J.V. are now 12-1.

In a setback in the conference standings, the Setters fell to Old Bridge in 
a tight match 27-29, 21-25.  Junior Laura Fernandez collected 3 aces and 5 
kills, Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 9 digs and 2 kills with 2 aces.  Senior 
Co-Captain Ashlee Foster collected 5 assists and had 4 digs.  The Varsity 
gears to a home match against divisional foe New Brunswick this afternoon.  
Only two victories away from a division championship!  The Varsity is now 
10-2.  The J.V. also fell to Old Bridge to snap their unbeaten streak at 
11.  Junior Kate Dooley led the team with 4 kills, 3 aces and 4 digs.  
Contributing were Junior Raquel Molina with 3 aces and Sophomore Laura 
Jimenez had 3 assists.  The J.V. looks to rebound today against New 
Brunswick.  Their record is now 11-1.   

The Setters came out strong to defeat J.F.K. of Iselin 25-13, 25-20.  Junior 
Lauren Mateo continued her hitting streak with 8 kills and had 4 aces.  
Junior Jouvianne Alexandre collected 4 kills, Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 10 
assists and 5 aces with 9 digs, while Junior Laura Fernandez had 4 aces and 
6 digs.  The Varsity is now 10-1.  The J.V. played well and beat J.F.K. of 
Iselin 25-16, 25-22.  Sophomore Napooma James had 3 digs and 2 kills, 
Freshman Angelika Wilczek had 2 digs, Junior Kate Dooley collected 5 aces 
and 4 kills, Junior Brianna Velez had 5 aces and 2 kills, and Freshman Alex 
Ravello had 2 digs.  The J.V. is now 11-0.

In a tight game the Varsity prevailed against Division foe North Brunswick 
21-25, 25-16, 25-21.  Junior Lauren Mateo had 8 kills and 2 blocks, Junior 
Jovianne Alexandre had 2 blocks and 5 kills, Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 12 
assists and 15 digs, Junior Laura Fernandez had 6 kills and 4 aces, while 
Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster collected 4 aces, 3 kills, and 9 assists.  
The Varsity are now two division wins away from a championship.  They are 
now 9-1.  The J.V. played excellent in a 25-22, 25-13 victory over North 
Brunswick.  Junior Kate Dooley and Sophomore Brianna Velez each had 4 kills, 
Sophomore Cindy Munoz collected 4 aces, Sophomore Danielle Bottita had 4 
digs while Freshman Amanda Krause had 3 kills.  The J.V. improved to 10-0!

The Setters served well to defeat Timothy Christian 25-14, 25-16.  Junior 
Paige Tannenhaus collected 6 aces, Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 4 aces with 7 
digs and 8 assists.  Junior Lauren Mateo had 6 kills and 3 digs with 3 aces, 
Junior Laura Fernandez collected 5 kills and 3 aces, while Junior Jouvianne 
Alexandre had 4 kills.  The Varsity is now 8-1.  The J.V. battled back in 
the 2nd match, down 8 points, Sophomore Liz Solan and Junior Kate Dooley 
collected 3 aces a piece to guide the J.V. Junior Paige Tannenhaus had 3 
kills and Sophomore Megan McClaren had 3 digs.  The J.V. continues their 
winning streak and remain undefeated at 9-0.

On Saturday the Varsity traveled to Bloomfield to take part in a 20 team 
tournament.  They finished third in Pool E.  Playing against State Ranked 
Pascack Hills along with Hackettstown and Gloucester Catholic the team 
walked away with better experiences.  The Varsity looks to get back into 
regular season action Tuesday when they travel to Timothy Christian.

Yesterday in a thrilling comeback the Varsity defeated South Plainfield 26-
24, 25-18.  In the first set down 22-12, Junior Lauren Mateo collected 11 
straight service points along with a tenacious defense that did not allow a 
sideout in that period.  Mateo also collected 6 kills and Sophomore Noelle 
Maertz led the team in digs with 12.  Junior Jovianne Alexandre had 5 kills 
and 2 blocks.  Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster had 3 kills and 6 digs and 8 
assists.  The Varsity is now 7-1.  The J.V. also defeated South Plainfield 
25-22, 25-21.  Junior Kate Dooley had 4 kills and 4 digs, Junior Paige 
Tannenhaus had 3 kills and 3 digs while Freshman Taylor Loughlin had 6 
service points and 3 digs!  The J.V. remains undefeated at 8-0.

Wow!  Wow!  The Varsity completly dominated their match over Monroe with a 
commanding 25-13, 25-9 victory.  Senior Co-Captain Caitlin Sarnicki served 
out the game with 5 aces and had 5 kills, Junior Lauren Mateo had 5 kills 
and 4 digs, Sophomore Noelle Maertz and Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster 
collected each 7 assists, while Junior Paige Tannenhaus had 4 aces.  The 
Varsity is home on Thursday against South Plainfield.  The J.V. also 
defeated Monroe 25-19, 25-16.  Junior Kate Dooley had 2 assists and 5 digs, 
Freshman Amanda Fullem came off the bench and had 3 digs while Sophomore 
Brianna Velez had 5 aces to lead the J.V. to a 7-0 record.

The Setters kept their winning ways as they defeated J.F.K. of Iselin 25-16,
25-13.  Junior Lauren Mateo collected 6 kills and 5 aces, Senior Co-Captain
Caitlin Sarnicki had 6 kills and 5 digs with 4 aces, while Junior Laura
Fernandez added 4 kills and 6 digs.  The Varsity improved to 5-1.  The J.V.
collected another victory as they defeated J.F.K. of Iselin 25-19, 25-23. 
Playing well for the Setters was Sophomore Brianna Velez having 6 aces and 3
kills, Junior Paige Tannenhaus had 2 kills and 4 digs, while Sophomore Liz
Solan had 3 aces and 4 assists.  The J.V. is now 6-0. 

"Good Things Come To Those Who Hustle"...what a way to avenge the Setters 
loss two days ago to Bishop Ahr.  The Varsity through tenacious 
determination dominated the game from the opening.  Defeating Bishop Ahr in 
two matches, 25-15, 25-23.  All portrayed a willingness to play 
unselfishly.  The team allocated 56 digs and through their toughness 
overcame a late Bishop Ahr rally and won on Junior Lauren Mateo's pass, 
Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster's set, and Junior Laura Fernandez's kill.  
The Varsity now looks to continue their winning ways as they travel to 
J.F.K. of Iseln on Monday afternoon.  The Varsity is now 4-1.  The J.V. also 
won their game against Bishop Ahr 23-25, 25-18, 25-7.  In the third match 
Junior Raquel Molina served 14 straight service points and the J.V. also 
hustled their way to the victory.  They are now 5-0!  Congratulations to all 
the team!

The Setters defeated New Brunswick 25-18, 23-25, 25-15 as Junior Lauren 
Mateo had 10 kills and 3 aces with 4 digs, Junior Jovianne Alexandre had 9 
kills and a block.  Senior Co-Captain Ashlee Foster had 10 assists and 6 
kills.  The Varsity looks to toughen up as they venture to Bishop Ahr to try 
and split the season series.  They are now 3-1.  The J.V. won 25-20, 25-18.  
Junior Raquel Molina had 4 kills and 4 aces, Junior Danielle Bottita had 4 
assists and 3 digs, while Sophomore Megan McClaren had 4 aces.  Freshman 
Taylor Loughlin contributed with 4 digs.  The J.V. is now 4-0.

The Varsity had a difficult time overcoming early emotions against rival 
Bishop Ahr as they lost 15-25, 18-25.  Junior Jovianne Alexandre had 4 kills 
and a block while Junior Laura Fernandez contributed with 6 digs and 4 
kills.  Co-Captain Caitlin Sarnicki collected 5 digs and 3 kills.  The 
Varsity record fell to 2-1.  The J.V. played strong in the third and final 
set to defeat Bishop Ahr 25-18, 21-25, 25-23.  Junior Kate Dooley had 5 
kills and 2 aces, Sophomore Brianna Velez had 5 aces and 3 kills, Sophomore 
Liz Solan had 5 assists and 4 digs with 2 kills and coming off the bench in 
the last set, Freshman Amanda Krause collected 2 kills to help the Setters.  
The J.V. is now 3-0. 

The Setters defeated North Brunswick 25-15, 25-9 as they rolled to their 2nd 
consecutive victory.  Leading the way was Junior Jovianne Alexandre who had 
5 kills and 2 blocks, Junior Laura Fernandez had 4 kills and 6 digs, Senior 
Captains Ashlee Foster collected 4 assists, 4 kills, 3 aces and 4 digs, 
while Caitlin Sarnicki had 6 digs.  Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 12 assists 
and 3 aces.  The J.V. came back in three sets to take North Brunswick 14-25, 
25-14, 25-9.  Sophomore Brianna Velez had 5 kills, 10 aces and 2 blocks, 
Junior Kate Dooley had 3 kills and 2 aces, Junior Paige Tannenhaus collected 
6 digs, while Sophomore Liz Solan had 5 assists and 2 aces.  The Varsity and 
J.V. are now 2-0.

The Varsity Setters came out strong and defeated South Plainfield 25-15, 25-
17 in their season opening game.  Junior Middle Lauren Mateo collected 6 
digs along with 1 block and 5 kills.  Junior Laura Fernandez had 6 kills and 
made 5 digs, while Sophomore Noelle Maertz had 8 assists and 3 aces.  The 
J.V. team also won their opener 25-18, 25-10.  Junior Katie Dooley had 3 
kills and 2 aces, Sophomore Briana Velez had 4 kills and 4 aces, Sophomore 
Liz Solan had 3 assists and 3 aces.  Both teams look to their home opener on 
Monday afternoon against North Brunswick!

The opening of the MSR Volleyball season is on Friday, September 11 at South 
Plainfield.  The team's home opener is on Monday afternoon as they take on 
division rival North Brunswick at 4:00PM Come out and support the team as 
they look to again capture the Division Championship!  Good Luck to all this

Tryouts for the Fall 2009 Volleyball Season begin on Monday, August 24th at 
10:00AM until 12:00 Noon.  The tryouts will be for three days.  Listen for 
the coaches announcements on times.
