The Mother Seton Varsity Softball team ended its season as the game vs. 
Spotswood was canceled due to heavy rains.  The team finished at 11-9, 
advanced to the First Round of the GMCT's, advanced to the Quarterfinal Rd. 
of the Parochial North A NJSIAA State Tournament.  The girls exceeded 
expectations and look forward to next year with a returning veteran team.  
Congratulations girls on an outstanding season. 

The Setters run to advance in the NJSIAA Parochial North A State Tournament 
came to an abrupt end as #2 seeded Pope John XXIII defeated them in 5 
innings 10-0.  Mother Seton looks to end their season on an upnote as they 
host Spotswood on Tuesday afternoon.  Come out and support the team!  Their 
record is now 11-9.

Mother Seton came into the NJSIAA Parochial North A Tournament game against 
#7 seeded Mt. St. Mary's and won 2-1 as Freshman Rebecca Faivre had the go 
ahead RBI in the 3rd inning.  Freshman Olivia Ortiz collected two hits and 
scored a run.  Freshman pitcher Amy Frost collected her 9th win of the 
season as she struck out 8 batters.  Junior Ashlee Foster had a double and 
made a nice defensive catch to end the game.  Mother Seton travels on 
Tuesday to #2 Pope John XXIII.  The Setters are now 11-8.  Good Luck girls!

On Monday the Setters defeated Timothy Christian 11-4.  Offensively Freshman 
Amy Frost went 4-4 with a double and two runs batted in, Frost also 
collected the win while striking out 6 batters.  Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola 
went 3-4 with an RBI and Freshman Cassandra Carnevale had three hits 
including a towering shot to center field for a double.  Junior Sarah Cruz 
came back with a 2-2 game including two RBI's and two defensive gems in the 
field.  Mother Seton travels to Metuchen tomorrow in a rematch from last 
weeks GMCT game.  The Setters are now 9-8.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MOTHER SETON SOFTBALL TEAM AS THEY WERE SEEDED #10 IN 
THE NJSIAA NON-PUBLIC NORTH A STATE TOURNAMENT.  THEY WILL TRAVEL TO #7 
SEEDED MOUNT SAINT MARY'S OF WATCHUNG.  GOOD LUCK GIRLS!

Another tough defeat for the Setters as they lost in 9 innings to Spotswood 
1-0.  Heading into the bottom half of the 7th inning, the Bombers led off 
with a walk and with two outs a sharp single to left field brought a play at 
the plate in which Freshman Left Fielder Olivia Ortiz gunned down the runner 
with a great tag by Sophomore Catcher Cassandra Beltran.  Freshman pitcher 
Amy Frost went the full 9 innings and pitched valiantly striking out 8 and 
allowing the lone run on an infield single.  Due to the rules starting in 
the ninth inning, a runner is placed at second base to begin the inning.  
Spotswood got their run in with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.  The 
Setters are now 9-8.

The Setters battled back in their Preliminary Round game in the GMCT at #12 
Metuchen.  Trailing 7-1 in the last inning, they put together a string of 6 
hits, including a 3 run double by Freshman Cassandra Carnevale, an RBI 
double by Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola and Junior Captain Ashlee Foster 
contributed by going 3-4 at the plate.  Mother Seton fell though by a score 
of 8-7.  The team played well to earn respect from their fellow Conference 
rivals.  Mother Seton is now 9-7.

Mother Seton advanced into the Preliminary Round of the GMCT's by defeating 
#24 Highland Park 8-2.  Freshman Olivia Ortiz smacked a 3 run triple and 
Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola doubled, while Junior Ashlee Foster collected a 
single.  Freshman Amy Frost collected her 7th win of the season!  The 
Setters will travel to #12 Metuchen on Wednesday.  Mother Seton is now 9-6.

The Setters defeated South River on Saturday 8-3 on Freshman Cassandra 
Carnevale's two run single, Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola's RBI double and 
Freshman Amy Frost's 6th victory of the season.  Mother Seton looks forward 
to Monday's GMCT tournament game against #24 Highland Park.  Good Luck girls!
MSR is now 8-6.

On Friday the Setters played strong against undefeated Bishop Ahr of Edison 
but eventually bowed 13-7.  Junior Ashlee Foster connected on a two run Home 
Run to put MSR ahead 2-1, but the Trojans battled back, Foster's RBI single 
cut the lead to 6-5.  Freshman Amy Frost collected two hits and an RBI while 
pitching a strong game striking out 8.  Mother Seton is now 7-6.

Due to the rain these are the following games that will be rescheduled.  
Cardinal McCarrick, Metuchen, New Brunswick, Spotswood, and possibly 
Carteret, check back for updates on the schedule page.

Mother Seton got seeded #21 in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament.  
They will host #24 Highland Park on Monday, May 11th at 4:00PM  Come out and 
support the Setters!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MOTHER SETON SOFTBALL TEAM AS THEY HAVE QUALIFIED FOR 
THE NJSIAA STATE TOURNAMENT FOR THE 7TH STRAIGHT SEASON.  GOOD LUCK GIRLS!

Once again the rain has dampened our spirits as today's game at New 
Brunswick has been cancelled.  No makeup has been scheduled as of yet.

Wednesday's game against Carteret has been cancelled due to poor field 
conditions.  No makeup has been scheduled as of yet.

Tuesday's game against division rival Bishop Ahr has been Cancelled due to 
rain, it has been rescheduled for this Friday, May 8th at 3:45 PM here at 
Mother Seton.

In the quest for the NJSIAA tournament berth, the Setters were put back a 
step as they lost 11-2 to GMC Blue division rival Cardinal McCarrick.  
Offensively for Mother Seton, Junior Ashlee Foster collected two hits 
including a two run Home Run, while Freshman Amy Frost had two hits and 
Freshman Rebecca Faivre collected a single.  Frost also collected 9 
strikeouts on the mound, The Setters look to rebound on Tuesday against 
Bishop Ahr at home.  Mother Seton is now 7-5.

The Setters came out to rebound from the last game against Middlesex and 
played tough as Freshman Amy Frost struck out 8 and gave up 1 earned run but 
wound up on the losing end of a 3-0 loss to Middlesex.  Junior Sarah Cruz 
had a hit and 2 assists, while Frost, Sophomore Cassie Beltran had a hit 
each and Freshman Cassandra Carnevale had a blast to center for a double.  
Mother Seton travels to Cardinal McCarrick of South Amboy Friday afternoon.  
The Setters are now 7-4. 

Metuchen defeated Mother Seton 15-2 in 5 innings due to 11 errors committed 
by the Setters, Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola connected on an RBI single, Junior 
Sarah Cruz also had an RBI single, while Sophomore Cassandra Beltran had a 
single to lead the Setters.  MSR is now 7-3.

The annual Mother Seton Sister of Charity Tournament was held on Saturday as 
the Setters swept St. Mary's of Elizabeth 17-1 in 5 innings and Marylawn of 
the Oranges 17-2 in 5 innings.  Offensively Freshman Taylor Ianuzeli went 3-
3 with a Homerun, three RBI's and three runs scored, Sophomore Rachel 
Snyder, Jackie Boyle, and Cassandra Beltran each had two hits, while Senior 
Captain Isabel Molina collected two hits also.  Freshman Amy Frost collected 
her 5th win of the year, while against Marylawn, Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola 
collected her 2nd win of the season.  A fun day for all teams and thanks to 
the wives of the coaches for their cooking and the parents of both present 
and past athletes for their continued support and help during the 
tournament.  Mother Seton is now 7-2 and looks forward to their divisional 
game vs. Metuchen on Tuesday.  Come out and support the team!

Mother Seton finished the Easter Break with a sweep of their opponents and a 
5 game winning streak.  On Friday, St. Vincent's of Newark fell 8-1 to the 
Setters, as Freshman Cassandra Carnevale collected two hits, including a 2 
run double, Junior Ashlee Foster had a 2 run double, and Junior Chelsea 
Madeira collected an RBI double.  Freshman Amy Frost won her fourth straight 
game as Mother Seton improved to 5-2 on the year.

The Setters won their 4th game in a row as they defeated South River 16-1 in 
5 innings.  Freshman Rebecca Faivre collected three hits, including a 2 run 
double, Sophomore Cassandra Beltran had 2 doubles, while Junior Ashlee 
Foster continued her torrid hitting streak with a double and 2 runs scored. 
Freshman Amy Frost pitched a 1 hitter with 6 strikeouts too earn her 3rd win 
of the season.  Freshman Cassandra Carnevale had 3 hits including a double 
while Freshman Olivia Ortiz collected 3 hits and 2 RBIS's, Sophomore Rebecca 
Cuzzola collected 3 RBI's.  The Setters are now 4-2.

Freshman pitcher Amy Frost won her second game of the year and pitched a 
five inning no-hitter as Mother Seton won 15-0 against division rival New 
Brunswick.  Frost stuck out 11 and walked three while offensively collected 
a first inning Homerun and an RBI double.  Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola also 
had 2 hits including an RBI double, Sophomore Cassandra Beltran collected 
two hits including an RBI double, and Freshman Rebecca Faivre had an RBI 
single.  The Setters are now 3-2.

The Setters broke open the game in the first inning as they came away with 9 
runs enroute to a 13-3 victory over Holy Family of Bayonne.  Freshman 
Pitcher Amy Frost earned her first careeer win by striking out 8 over 5 
innings, she also collected three hits and 2 RBI's, Junior Ashlee Foster 
continued her hot season with a three hit game including a 2 run Homerun, 
her third homerun in 4 games.  Junior Sarah Cruz collected 4 RBI's 
including a bases clearing double.  Freshman Olivia Ortiz had 3 hits also 
while Freshman Cassandra Carnevale had an RBI with 2 runs scored.  Mother 
Seton is now 2-2.

Mother Seton registered their first victory of the season with a 17-0 win in 
4 innings at St. Anthony's of Jersey City.  Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola 
collected her first win and contributed with 2 hits and received offensive 
support from fellow Sophomore Paige Tannenhaus went 3-3 with a Homerun and 2 
RBIS, Junior Sarah Cruz went 2-3 with a double and a 2run Homerun, Junior 
Ashlee Foster collected three hits and 4 RBI including a Homerun, while 
Freshmen Cassandra Carnevale went 3-3 with 2 RBI and a Homerun.  Freshmen  
Rebecca Faivre pitched well in relief with 4 strikeouts.  The Setters are 
now 1-2.

On Tuesday Bishop Ahr ran away with an 18-1 victory in 5 innings over the 
Setters.  Collecting her first career Home Run was Sophomore Rebecca 
Cuzzola.  Mother Seton looks to gain their first win of the season as they 
travel to St. Anthony's of Jersey City on Wednesday then look forward to 
Monday April 13th as they take on Holy Family of Bayonne in their season 
home opener, come out and support the Setters!  MSR is now 0-2.

The Setters opening day was disrupted by the Middlesex Blue Jays as they 
scored 5 runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.  The final was 12-2 
in 6 innings as Amy Frost's first career victory was delayed.  Mother Seton 
led off the game with back to back doubles on Freshman Olivia Ortiz's and 
Sophomore Rebecca Cuzzola's hits.  Junior Ashlee Foster went 1-3 with a solo 
Homerun in the 5th inning.  The Setters look forward to Tuesday as they 
travel to division champion Bishop Ahr.  Mother Seton is now 0-1.

The season starts on Thursday April 2 at Middlesex.  Check back to see game

Friday, March 6th: All Newcomers: 12:00 to 2:00
                   Returning Players: 2:00 to 4:00
Saturday, March 7th: All Newcomers: 12:00 to 1:30
                     Returning: 1:30 to 3:00
Monday, March 8th: All Players: 2:30 to 5:30

There is a mandatory meeting for all students interested in trying out for 
the 2009 Mother Seton Softball team.  The meeting will be held in the Drama 
Studio on Wednesday, February 25th from 2:15 until 2:45  If you cannot 
attend the meeting you must see either Coach Moran or Coach Downey.

Tryouts will be held on Friday, March 6th and Saturday March 7th and Monday 
March 9th.  Listen for announcements for times.  Be prepared for inclement 
weather.  Sweatshirt, sweatpants, cleats, sneakers, gloves and bats should 
be brought to tryouts.  Good Luck to all!
