Guidance Awards presented to students at the Assembly on June 13, 2008
St. Michael’s College Scholarship and Service Book Award recognizes students who exhibit the characteristics of an ideal St. Michael’s student. It is based specifically on achievement in academics and community service. The candidate must be an inductee of the National Honor Society and have demonstrated a sustained and sincere commitment to community service activities through Mother Seton and organizations within her community. This year the St. Michael’s College Book Award is presented to junior: Sophonie Pepe
The Smith College Book Award is given to a student who has exhibited academic achievement, leadership qualities, and concern for others. These are the qualities that characterize thousands of women who have graduated from Smith College. This student must be in the ten top ten percent of her class and be an example of scholarship and community service. The recipient of the award this year is: Rachel Del Valle
The University of Rochester Kodak Young Leaders Award is presented to a student who has achieved success in challenging courses, has demonstrated strong leadership, and is involved in extensive extra-curricular activities. Winners are considered for the Kodak Young Leaders Scholarship in the amount of $6,000 per year toward college tuition at the University of Rochester, if they apply for admission. This year’s recipient is: Meredith Lubas
The University of Rochester Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Studies is presented from the University of Rochester to a junior who has high grades in the humanities and/or social science courses and is active in co-curricular activities. This student must have demonstrated leadership, dedication to community action, and commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues. Recipients of this award will be considered for a scholarship in the amount of $6,000 each year toward tuition at the University of Rochester, if they apply for admission. For students interested in engineering. Submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in response to one of the two questions posted on the website. $500 prize. Deadline: Sept. 15, 2008
NJ Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation Scholarship, www.njvvmf.org
Two $2,500 scholarships awarded to seniors planning to attend college who have visited the NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and have written an essay about their visit to the Memorial. Deadline: April 18
Woodbridge Rotary Scholarship Foundation. Awards scholarships to residents of Woodbridge Township for post-secondary education. Applications are in the Guidance Office. Requires supporting documentation including: application, transcript, character reference, statement of personal goals, and financial statement. Deadline: April 15
This scholarship provides financial assistance for qualified students with physical disabilities. Interested students must apply to NJIT through the regular admissions process. Please contact the NJIT admissions office at 973-596-3300 or email admissions@njit.edu for an application form.
Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield Scholarships
Senior women who have gone above and beyond in service to their community through volunteerism may apply. Applications can be found online at www.jlernj.org. Deadline: 4/21/08.
Middlesex County School Nurses Association Scholarship
Interested in nursing? Middlesex offers a scholarship to a student interested in pursuing a professional nursing education. Applicants must have a B average and be applying to a four-year collegiate nursing school. Deadline: 4/12/08.
National Association of Water Companies Scholarship
Seniors who are U.S. citizens residing in NJ for a minimum of five years, planning to attend a NJ college or university, maintaining a GPA of 3.0 (B), and be interested in pursuing a degree in the water utility industry or related field may apply. Application must be received by: 4/1/08.
New Jersey Utilities Association Scholarship
Seniors who are female, minority or disabled, who can demonstrate financial need, and have achieved academic excellence are eligible. Children of employees at NJUA member companies may not apply. Application must be received by: 4/1/08.
2008 NFIB Young Entrepreneurial Award
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit or initiative and have demonstrated it, you may receive up to $10,000. Go to: www.NFIB.com/YEA to apply.
Maurice M. Williams Scholarship – To be eligible, you must be a minority female residing in Somerset or Middlesex County, demonstrate financial need, and have served in a leadership capacity in school or within the community, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Savannah College of Art and Design Scholarship
If you apply and are accepted, you might qualify for this scholarship. Criteria: demonstrated strong leadership skills, minimum B/3.0 GPA of 4.0, and excel artistically. Summit Chorale
Seniors who have been active in a school choral music program and are applying to colleges as a music major in an accredited college or university for the upcoming academic year are eligible. ....has announced that students whose parents' income totals $60,000 or less no longer have to contribute financially to their child's education. For families whose income is less than $40,000, they have eliminated student loans, and have also reduced loans for families with incomes up to $100,000. All merit scholarships now provide full tuition, room, board, and fees, a value of almost $50,000 per year.
St. Francis University, Loretto, PA, $6,000 Franciscan Award ($1,500 annually) available to ALL graduates of Catholic high schools.
Assumption College, Worcester, MA. administers a competitive merti scholarship program providing awards up to $20,000 to qualied applicants

College of Mount Saint Vincent, Riverdale, NY has informed us that they offer a number of scholarships based on SAT or ACT scores and GPAs. Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa offers $1,000 scholarships to students graduating from Catholic high schools.
State University of New York, Oswego. Awards ove5 $2.5 million in Presidential and Merit Scholarships to incoming freshmen. If you have a B+ average (3.5 GPA) or better and 1100 SAT (combined critical reading and Math), you will be eligible for scholarship consideration. University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, "New England's Best Public University". Offers a series of Merit Scholarships: Presidential Scholarships for Valedictorians and Salutatorians; Academic Excellence: those who rank in the top 10% of the class; Leadership, demonstrated commitment to multicultural diversity programs and initiatives through leadership, special talents, achievements and services. SAT and GPA are factors in awarding scholarships.
University of Dayton, Dayton, OH. Offers Merit Scholarships based on GPA and SAT/ACT scores. If you have a total of 1000 on the combined Critical Reading and Math portion of the SAT and/or 21 on the ACT, you may qualify. The higher the numbers, the greater the scholarship amounts.
University of Maryland, Department Of Dance, College Park, NJ. Dance Scholarships for gifted and talented dance majors. Applications are due Feb. 17, Audtions: March 2. University of St. Thomas, Houston, TX, V.J. Guinan Presidential Full Tuition Scholarship. Must be Catholic, SAt Scores should be equal to 1400 SAT or 32 ACT, and rank in top 10% of class or a 1300 SAT, 29 ACT and rank in the top 5% of the class. Recommended 3.5 GPA
Washington College, Chestertown, MD: offers scholarships to National Honor Society and Cum Laude Society Members: $10,000 annually for four years. Additional Scholarships are available based on GPA, Class Rank, SAT/ACT scores.
Suggestion: Do your research! Please go to the websites of the colleges that interest you. Many colleges and universities offer merit scholarships such as these, and they have awarded them to Mother Seton seniors in the past!
