Welcome to Forensic Science. *********************************************** We will be learning and practicing the techniques used by Crime Scene Investigators (CSI's) to process crime scenes and collect evidence, as well as laboratory techniques practiced by Forensic Scientists to process and test that evidence. Although there is no midterm or final exam in this course, there is a practical (crime scene) exercise each semester, there are many hands-on activities, and there are chapter tests. MARKING PERIOD 2 WEEK OF NOVEMBER 9 MONDAY You will hand in the lab sheet summary of the activities you did in processing latent prints. On Wednesday there will be a test on Chapter 4, Fingerprints, including fingerprint types, patterns, minutia, comparison, identification. In class today, we will begin looking at the next chapter, Chapter 5, Hair and Fur via a powerpoint presentation. TUESDAY We will finish our powerpoint on Hair and Fur. WEDNESDAY Test on Chapter 4, Fingerprints THURSDAY You will do an exercise in class that shows how hair found at a crime scene may be used to help solve a crime. FRIDAY You will begin your microscope lab work on examining, identifying and drawing different kinds of hair and fur from prepared slides, and slides that you make in class. This activity will take us at least through next Tuesday. WEEK OF NOVEMBER 16 MONDAY We will continue with the microscope lab, begun on Friday TUESDAY You will complete the microscope lab. WEDNESDAY This is Culture Day, and you will be away from school THURSDAY Anyone who needs to finish any part of the hair lab will have the opportunity to complete it in class today. FRIDAY The test on Chapter 5, Hair and Fur, originally scheduled for today, has been rescheduled for Monday, November 23 (a C-day) IMPORTANT NOTE: GRADE CORRECTION---- Because of my error, there is a grade correction on the Fingerprint Test which you just got back today. Correct your grade on the first part as follows: Add 40 to the numerator, and 40 to the denominator. This will show the number of points you received out of 76 points (not 36 as shown on your paper). This should substantially improve your grade. The second grade (10 points) is not affected. Sorry.
