Health - Physical, social and emotional well-being. The well-being of the

body, mind and relationships with others.

Wellness - The practice of healthy behavior. Keeping the body free of

problems and disease.

Personality - Qualities and unique traits that make a person an individual.

Healthy personality: feel good about self and at ease w/ other.

Heredity - Biological traits or characteristic passed from parent to child.

Example: Color of hair / eyes, height and weight.

Introvert - Quiet, small groups. A person whose feelings are directed inward

Extrovert - Friendly, outgoing, enjoys being w/ others and large groups.

Identity - Social, emotional, physical and intellectual characteristics

incorporated in an individual. Who a person is.

Self Image - Characteristic or how one views oneself (Looking Glass Self)

Self-esteem - Pride in oneself. To like and feel good about oneself.

Environment - Surroundings: ( family, friends, church, school, clubs)

Culture - Beliefs and patterns shared and passed down from generation

to generation. ( traditions, religion, language, food preferences )

Family - Basic unit of society (nuclear/extended/blended/single)

Love, mutual respect, trust/honesty, comfort/security,

rules/structure.

Relationship - Meaningful association between people, family and friends.

Friendship - A give-and-take relationship based on mutual trust, acceptance,

and common interest.

Communication - A two-way exchange of ideas and thoughts. Sharing

information.

Role model - Someone who and individual looks up to and wants to be like.

A person who sets and example for others.

Roles - The parts you play when interacting with others.

Modeling - The process of learning by imitating another person. Copying

the behavior of others.

Values - What a person views as important and believes is right or wrong.

Peer pressure - A social force that wants an individual to conform to the

groups standards or behavior.

Mental Health - State of being comfortable with oneself, with others and

with ones surroundings. The well-being of the mind.

Anorexia - A disorder of self-starvation to the extreme.

Bulimia - An eating disorder in which a person alternates binges w/ purging.

Perfectionist - Accepts nothing less than excellence in oneself.

Malnutrition - Poor nutrition, nutrient deficiency.

Clique - A narrow, exclusive group of people with similar interests.

Bully - An individual with low self-esteem, that hurts others to feel good.

Respect - To show courtesy and consideration.

Achievement - Fulfillment and accomplishment in performance.

Instinct - Inherited pattern of behavior that does not need to be learned.

Slender - Slim, narrow and thin.

Overweight - Weight gain of 10 - 20 lbs. above appropriate weight.

Exercise - Practice and promote muscle tone, walk, jog, swim etc.

Metabolism - The chemical process by which the body breaks down food to

obtain energy.

Nutrition - The process by which the body takes in and uses nutrients.

Nutrients - Substance needed to promote body growth, repair tissues, and

obtain energy.

Support system - A network of individuals in which one receives emotional

support.

Three facets of health:

Physical - (body) Appearance, clothes, hair, hygiene and reproductive.

Social - (relationships) Interaction w/ others, clubs, athletics, family.

Emotional - (mind) coping skills, ability to adapt to change
