MODERN EUROPEAN HISTORY MRS. SAFKO
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This year you are going to enter the fascinating world of European
history. You will witness the rise and fall of empires and great
leaders,the unification of Italy and Germany, the devastation caused by two
great wars, the end of the Cold War and the emergence of the European
Community.
TEXT: CIVILIZATION IN THE WEST (VOLUME 3)
Outside readings will be assigned during the school year.
COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
Daily attendance is essential and class participation is expected. You
are responsible for all work covered in class, when absent it is your
responsibility to obtain notes and make up any assigned work, tests, quizzes
in a timely manner. (Review Handbook)
SUPPLIES: Notebook, type is left up to you, bring it to class everyday. I
recommend that you have a folder to keep tests, quizzes, handouts etc.
TEXTBOOK: It is not necessary to bring your text to class every day, I
will tell you when we will be using it in class. They need to be covered as
they are paper bound and can be easily destroyed.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Written homework may not be assigned every night, but you must keep up
with the readings and review your notes nightly. Written assignments are to
be done on the computer using no more than a 12 font. If you hand write an
assignment, it is on white lined paper, using black or blue pen. Remember,
you cannot use computer problems as an excuse for handing things in late,
late is late and will result in a lower grade!!! DO NOT E MAIL me
assignments, all work is to be handed to me personally, if you leave
something on my desk or in my mailbox, you do it at your own risk!. (This
year you may use the homework drop box on gaggle to e mail an assignment).
As the
material covered in this subject is not something that you are that familiar
with it is IMPERATIVE that you keep up with the reading and PLEASE ask
questions or see me for help if you don't understand something. I do not
want to scare you off, but MEH can be a little confusing at times, BUT it is
SO INTERESTING!!!!!!!!!
GRADING: You will be evaluated based on tests, quizzes, homework, essays,
projections and class participation.
I am available both before and after school. All you need to do is ask
and we will be able to work something out.
Second Marking Period We will read "Nicholas and Alexandra" by
Robert Massey. It is not only the story of the last Romanov's, but it is a
beautiful love story!!!!!! This will coincide with our study of the
Romanov's, the Russian Revolution and the emergence of communism.
