Highlights for Mrs. Mosebrook’s classes of
Language Arts and 8th period (SSR/Journal, Advisory/Character Counts)

Homework -
See practice work policy for additional details.

Practice work policy- point system of 0,1,2,3 points
Student planners- used for keeping a record of homework, projects, and tests
Practice work list - daily on the blackboard and in composition books in the back

Grading and Signed Papers

items correct example: 7 = 70D
number of items 10
A rough percentage can be calculated by dividing the top number by the bottom number. My rationale is twofold: to emphasize what was done correctly and to give equal value to questions/answers. Retention/promotion is per school policy in the handbook. Papers around 70% and below will be required to be signed in order for guardians to be informed. Self-addressed stamped envelopes (SASE) may be sent in by parents.

Projects/Book Reports- LA

A requirement sheet with guidelines is given when a project/book report is made. A grading sheet is completed by the student before the assignment is turned into me. 1 point per day will be deducted for late work; after 5 days a zero is entered.
To encourage independent reading, 1 independent book report/project/research paper will be required for each marking period as well as SRC (Scholastic Reading Counts) points. SRC points per marking period are as follows: grade 5- 12, 13, 14, 15; grade 6-16, 17, 18, 19; grade 7-20, 21, 22, 23; gr. 8- 24, 25, 26, 27. These will be figured into the student’s reading grade. They are NOT optional; neither are they extra credit.

Extra Credit

No extra credit projects will be given. In reading tests/quizzes, the students sometimes have opportunities of answering additional questions for extra credit. There are limited in-class opportunities for extra credit too.

Absenteeism

Absenteeism is detrimental to students’ learning processes as the practice and instruction in the classroom setting cannot be replicated. It is the student’s responsibility to get make-up work, including class work, homework, and test/project notification. Zeros will be recorded for missing work after the time allotted in the handbook. There are 2 sources in the class to facilitate this: a file with make-up tests/work not sent home and a composition book containing daily homework copied from the board at the conclusion of the school day.

Help/Questions/Concerns

Most days I arrive at school by 8:05 A.M. and leave at 3:50 P.M.; therefore help is always available. Questions/concerns can be left on my school voice mail, 310, or e-mail. Emergencies should be called into the school office. Please do not return calls to my personal cell phone number. Additional information can be found on the hotline- Ph 931-1634, ext 9 and web site.

Class Behavior Grade - See” Class Guidelines/Rules” for details.

Points will be deducted for inappropriate class behavior: lateness; rudeness or disrespect; lack of preparation-missing materials or assignments; and unproductive activity. A Behavior Report will be given near the end of selected marking periods.
