You can display and hide paragraph marks and other nonprinting characters as necessary by using Standard toolbar’s SHOW/HIDE button. In Word, text alignment is preset to left. This means that as you type text, is it aligned with the left margin. To create a more visually appealing document, you might want to center a paragraph or align it to the right. You can also justify a paragraph, which aligns the text with both the left and the right margins. You can change paragraph alignment by clicking the appropriate button on the Formatting toolbar or by using Paragraph dialog box’s Indents and Spacing tab, illustrated in Figure 8. Setting Tabs Using the Tabs Dialog Box: Tabs are used to align paragraph text at standard positions. World lets you apply tabs to existing text or set them as you are typing new text. You can set different tab types to align text in a variety of ways, and you can even set tabs with leaders. Table 6 lists the tab types and a description of each. Table 6: Tab Types: Tab settings are measured by their distance from the left margin. New tab settings apply to the current paragraph and to any subsequent paragraphs you create by pressing the Enter key and then typing. This carries the current paragraph’s formatting, including its tab setting, forward in the document. The new tab settings do not affect any existing paragraphs below the current one; however, unless you select the paragraphs before you set the tabs. By default, Word sets tabs at the half-inch intervals. If you need to set new tabs or to change the default tabs, one way to do so is by using the Tabs dialog box under the Format menu, illustrated in Figure 10. When you set a new tab, Word automatically clears all default tabs to the left of the new tab setting. Grades 4, 5A and 5B 1. Computer keyboard, for the year. 2. Getting to know the cursor changes in Publisher will help the user immeasurably. You will notice as you move the cursor around the screen, it will change into different icons. Here are the most common cursor varieties and their corresponding functions. The Toolbars The toolbars in Publisher will change, depending on what kind of frame is currently selected (picture frame, text frame, WordArt frame.) For example, if the handlebars (the little black dots surrounding a frame) are on a text box, the Text Tools toolbar will become available to the user. This allows for easy access to relevant tools. Creating Art Frames WordArt is used for decorative titles and headlines. More formal or traditional text should be created in a text box. However, the elaborate shapes, colors and patterns of WordArt can make text-heavy frames hard to read. WordArt should be used to make a dramatic or bold statement, such as a newsletter headline. Add Art to Document Creating Text Frames Create a text frame for any text that is more than a line. For instance, use a text frame for an article in a newsletter, but use a WordArt frame for the headline. Creating Picture Frames You can put any picture that has a Publisher compatible file type into a picture frame. Once the graphic is in Publisher, you can resize, rotate, crop, or move the graphic anywhere in the publication. Pictures can be added either from the Clip Art Gallery or from an existing file that has been saved. Grouping Objects Multiple objects (frames) can be grouped together as one object for easier manipulation and resizing.
