This area is not a substitute for the daily agenda which each student has
been provided with.
However, I will post general information so parents have a better idea what
students should be working on.
Week of:11/30-12/4
Period 7 is continuing to work on Unit 2 vocabulary. In addition to studying
the words' spellings, meanings, parts of speech, and uses in a sentence, they
have created a connotaion chart. We will discuss the figurative use of some
of these words as well as each word's proper pronunciation. I hope to give
this class a test on Wednesday.
Periods 1,2, and 6 have completed the vocabulary test, and they will receive
their tests back on Monday. I want to expand their facility with sentences
by introducing the COMPLEX sentence. We will study the
structure,punctuation,and variations of this sentence type. The goal is for
this more sophisticated type of sentence to be used more often in student
writing.
By Thursday all students will be reviewing the approach to writing an
explanatory essay on a quote. This is a NJASK writing type. The students have
already practiced this in marking period 1. This writing ,which will be
given during class early this week, will be ONE of the factors determining
placement in high school English.
