accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow."
~ William Shakespeare

the website **
The following writing contests can be found in our APRIL/MAY issue of
"Storyworks":
--Write a review of a great book you have read. Send it to Storyworks, and
you could win a "Storyworks" prize. Send your reviews to the "REVIEWS BY
YOU" department at the address on page 2. Include a color photo and sign
your name at the bottom of the review. Be sure to include details from the
book and provide your opinion. Think about choosing a book that other kids
might not already know. Look at pages 6 and 7 in this month's issue for
reviews by kids like you!
--Write to Win! When Caleb left Little Prairie, he had to leave Old Nate
behind. Imagine that Caleb wrote a letter to Old Nate describing his journey
to New Madrid and what he saw when he got there. Use information from the
story and your imagination to write a letter that includes details of Caleb's
experiences and his feelings about the disaster. Send entries to "Earthquake
Contest" by May 15, 2009. Storyworks will pick 10 winning entries and send
their writers a copy of "The Legend of Zoey" by Candie Moonshower, a novel
about the Midwestern earthquakes. See page 2 for more details.
--Write to Win! In Conan Doyle's stories about Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson
recorded the tales of his detective friend. If you were Dr. Watson, how would
you describe Holmes? Storyworks will pick 10 winning entries and send their
writers Conan Doyle's stories, "The Great Adventures of Sherlock Holmes." Send
your entry to "Holmes Contest" by May 15, 2009. See page 2 for more details.
