Study Tips!

Mrs. Stack, how do I prepare for tests and quizzes???

MATH:
Preparing or "studying" for a Math quiz or test is more like "practicing." In addition to
looking over your notes and any handouts (MM) from the Math section of your binder, you should
practice solving problems and checking your answers.
For instance, a good study tip would be to cover over the answers in your Math Journal with a
sticky note and try solving the problems once again. You could then lift the sticky note to
check your answer (as long as it has a star on it, you'll know that it is correct from going over it
in class).
Also, look up the topics we worked on in the Student Reference Book index. Each page reviews
important notes about the topic, has examples of how to solve and includes a "Check Your
Understanding" box at the bottom which includes practice problems. The answers to the practice
problems are listed in the back of the book so check your work right away.
I would also suggest looking in the "Math Links" section of my website for extra practice.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Reviewing for a Social Studies test is a lot like having a conversation about the material. In
Social Studies, you need to be able to discuss and support your opinions and concepts with facts. A
good start is to review the "What do you think?" questions we have covered during the unit.
Additionally, looking over your "RAP's" of the Social Studies book pages as well as the Power Point
presentations we have seen in class.
I would also suggest looking in the "Social Studies Links" section of my website for extra review.

SCIENCE:
Definitely study your lab notes! I often pull questions from our investigations, results, and
discussions during class after we conduct an experiment. Notes are very important! It is also
recommended that you review the Science stories and the responses for each one. Questions are pulled
from these stories and do connect to the work we do during experiments.
I would also suggest looking in the "Science Links" section of my website for extra review of
these concepts.
