It is my policy to give homework every day except Friday and over
vacations. Homework is an integral part of the teaching program. It
supports and gives practice to the concepts worked on in class as well as
teaching responsibility and good study habits. Your child should have about
an hour and a half of homework a day in all the subjects, not including time
spent reading, studying for tests and quizzes, and working on long term
projects. Students should do their homework on their own, neatly, and to
the best of their ability. Homework written in the agenda book,
parental involvement in the homework process, a place and time set aside
each day, and a homework "survival kit" of materials will make homework a
more positive experience. Please choose a homework "drop spot" for you to
look at the agenda book, homework, tests or quizzes to sign, and return to
the student if you are not home when assignments are finished. That way the
student has the same place to go to get ready for school the next day.
Homework is checked in class together. Ten homework points will be awarded
if it is done and handed in on time. Homework is due the next day after it
is assigned, unless otherwise specified. Late assignments are not accepted,
however, students may be required to complete the assignments after school.
The student is responsible to get the classwork and homework when they are
absent from class. It is a good idea to have a study buddy who would share
any assignment information needed.
When physically absent from school, homework will be due as soon as possible
upon return. When absent from class because of music lessons, TIB, or any
other school related program, the student is responsible to hand in homework
on time just as if he/she had been in class.
Please help us organize your child's after school schedule so that homework
is a priority. You can be consistent with your interest, support, and
praise for jobs well done.
We, as your child's sixth grade teachers, need your support at home.
Motivation, love of learning and reading begins and is fostered at home.
Encourage your child to give his/her best effort in everything. Our team
cares about your child and his/her success. It is important that we work
together to have a great year.
