Math

We began working on Patterning last week. We started with AB patterns and advanced to AAB, ABB. For most this concept was fairly simply. However some children are having trouble. Have your child make a pattern for you at home so you can see if they need a little help with this concept. You can use ANY two objects; spoons & forks, paperclips and crayons, blocks and cars etc.
This week we will work on ABC patterns.

We continued to work on matching the number, set of objects and the number word for the numbers 1-5. We have also worked on forming sets ups to 7, and determining which set out of two are more and which are less. As the number of objects in a set gets larger the more difficult it becomes for some children to count. When counting objects I suggest they "count and move " each object. When counting pictured objects I suggest they make a dot by the object as they count so they know which ones have or have not been counted.
Please go over this at home. I have taught the children to make consistent pictures for 3,4,5,6 and 7. Ask them about this.

We will continue to work on number recognition in October. Our focus will now be the numbers 0-8.
Our goal is for the children to ;
                      a) recognize the number
                      b) count out the correct number of objects
                      c) write the number

 We have spent a great deal of time working on shapes, and directional words. We also played several games using dice. This was difficult for the children who do not recognize the numbers up to six. If this is your child I encourage you to practice with them at home. Playing board games together is a fun way to practice.

We have also worked on sorting and graphing!
We are very busy!!!

Our Math curriculum is quite comprehensive.  Please be sure to read the weekly Homework sheet as well as this site in order to stay on top of the work we are doing.
