Homework

As you have noticed our homework is often becoming more difficult, with a
writing assignment occuring several days each week.
It is VERY important that you only often support and guidance to your child
and DO NOT spell the words for them. When helping them stretch the words be
mindful that children at this age often do not hear vowels or blended
sounds. That IS OK! The goal is for them to hear the first, last and maybe a
middle sound. Sight words should be spelled correctly. We are working on
short a this week so I am hoping that many will now hear that sound too.
When your child is stretching a word they should write down the letters that
THEY think they hear (underneath you can write it correctly so I am able to
understand their thoughts). IF you help your child too much, you are NOT
really helping them. If they rely on you for their writing, they will have a
very hard time in school when I need them to write for an assessment and can
offer absolutely no help. I know this is hard, but if we all help them in
the same way I promise you it will get so much easier and your child will
become a writer!!
