Summer Reading Letter 2013
2012 Middle School Supplies

Hello Parents and Students!
The summer reading assignment is found on the school's main page. A copy of the letter is linked above. The handout explains the requirement of reading THREE choice books over the summer and completing book reviews for each of the three books read. Book review forms are available at the town library and  MUST be dropped off directly to the town library BEFORE school begins. Do NOT bring the book reviews to class on the first day of school. Scroll down for THOUSANDS of summer reading book ideas. Students can also log on to Mrs. Radomski's webpage for more ideas. (CLICK HERE!) Please contact the town librarian for more information. Parents and students may also contact Ms.Miller mmiller@rpsnj.org or Mrs. Radomski aradomski@rpsnj.org over the summer. Have a wonderful summer break. HAPPY READING!

Grade 8 School Year Reading Homework Assignment:
Read daily in 30 minute sessions across all seven days. Research finds that the typical teen reader reading an independent level book will cover 24 pages in 30 minutes. Since the typical teen book is under 250 pages, this translates to 168 pages or more per week or one book every other week. Students who cannot read to this expectations should check the difficulty level of the book and the quality of the reading environment before making the necessary adjustments. Students who follow the school year reading homework assignment during the eight weeks of summer break should reach a minimum of 1,344 pages by the end of the summer which roughly translates to 5 books.
