MayHappy Mother's Day Kindergarten Language Arts and Mathematics In Language Arts, the Kindergateners have continued to make their letter sound books, and identify different letter sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of words. So far this month we have worked with beginning and ending /b/, and beginning and medial short /e/ sounds. They have added new word familes to their "Word Family Book". This month we have worked with the -uck, and ump families. In Mathematics the Kindergateners are continuing to practice counting forward and backwards, skip counting, writing numbers, and identifying and drawing shapes. They have also begun identifying 3-D shapes and are adding and subtracting single digit math equations with the help of either the number grid or the Touch Math dot system. They are learning to take data and use it to make bar and column graphs. They can tell time to the nearest hour on both an analog and digital clock. 1st and 2nd Grade Language ArtsThe first and second graders are continuing to work on their weekly spelling lists. They can identify color and number words. They did a great job creating a list of synonyms and antonyms. We are always practicing our reading, both oral and silent, and comprehension skills. They have also been concentrating on retelling stories they have read or listened to and identifying what happened in the beginning, middle, and end. 1st Grade Mathematics The first graders are learnig to measure objects and line segments to the nearest centimeter. They have learned to write addition and subtraction equations for many of the fact families and are writing numbers in expanded form. They are doing a great job on the timed fact tests and the ice cream cones are continuing to grow. We are continuing to practice counting forward and backwards, skip counting, and writing numbers and letters. 2nd Grade Mathematics The second graders have been working to solve addition and subtraction word problems. They are adding multi-digit equations that require "regrouping" ("carrying") and are learning to write numbers in expanded form. They are doing a great job on the timed fact tests and the ice cream cones are quickly growing. We are continuing to practice counting forward and backwards, skip counting, and writing numbers and letters.
