Happy Fall and Upcoming Thanksgiving Break! The Lazar Nurses are Mrs. Kim Sikora RN, CSN and Mrs. Angela Brancato RN, CSN. We can be reached at 973-331-7140 ext. 224 for any Health related issues or concerns during school hours.*******Please be aware for Student Absences, you MUST call ext 270 and report to Absence Line.*********** We know everyone is concerned about the H1N1 Flu going around. We will do our best with the help of the Morris County Health Dept to keep you up to date with the latest information surrounding this illness. Please see our policy re: Fever Free for 24 hours without use of OTC fever reducers. This would pertain to this illness, as of the latest update from Health Dept. Inform your MD if your child has underlying health issues or chronic illness, to determine the need for the flu shot when it becomes available. Please Keep your child home if they are sick with symptoms of flu. Including cough, fever, sorethroat, stomache upset, and headache. Even if your child does not have a fever, but is feeling achey, and coughing, keep them at home. Please call your child's doctor to determine the course of treatment and medical recommendations. Help us prevent the spread of this virus by keeping sick children away from other healthy children. Children must be fever free for 24 hours before entering school and be able to remain in their academic classes. Preventive measures: proper handwashing, good nutrition, and adequate rest. Staying away from others that are ill, will help prevent further spread. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our students safe and healthy. For further reference, please check on these websites: http://nj.gov/health/flu/forschool.shtml http://wwww.cd.gov/h1n1flu/ As always, please call us with any concerns. We are always happy to help. Thanks, Mrs. Sikora and Mrs. Brancato Important Reminders: 1. Ensure your child has had breakfast consisting of carbohydrate and protein Many students will openly tell us that they have not eaten breakfast. Studies have shown that children that do not eat breakfast are more apt to be obese and preform below children that had a good breakfast. 2. Ensure proper rest and sleep. Students can not preform when they have not had adequate rest in either academics or sports. Having a "lights out" policy at home and keeping a regular schedule at bedtime will provide your child with the tools to succeed. 3. Lastly, any medications including OTC (like Tylenol, Motrin, Midol, Zyrtec) need an MD order in the school setting. We can not adminster these OTC meds wihout an MD order to do so. Children, also, may not self administer these in school or carry them. Forms are in the Health Office for your convenience and may be picked up to be filled out by MD. We encourage you to do this so we can best address your child's needs during the school year as needed.
