Parents: Below is a letter that is posted on the district website concerning
goody bags in the classrooms. This letter reviews the district's policy. It
breaks a teacher's heart to have to tell a child to take home goody bags made
for classmates with good thoughts in mind, but it something we have to do.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Again, this year, we are discouraging the practice of students celebrating a
birthday by sharing food treats. This decision was made in consideration of
dietary and health concerns. Instead, it is suggested that you celebrate your
child’s birthday by purchasing a paperback book to donate to the school or
classroom library in his/her name. Such a gift encourages reading and
provides enjoyment for many other students over a long time period. Once the
book is processed, your child would be recognized by being the first to
check it out of the school or classroom library. Presently, teachers make
each child feel special on his/her birthday. We have suggested a gift of a
book to the school/class library. However, if you feel that you would like to
treat the entire class, please make sure that it is a non-food item such as a
sticker, eraser, pencil, etc. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly
appreciated.
Very truly yours,
Elementary Principals
