Welcome students and families, new and returning! I hope everyone had an
enjoyable, restful summer! I am looking forward to hearing all about your
summer reading experiences with the newly mandated summer reading program, the
new LetterPALS online reading activity, and the Sayreville Public Library's
summer reading program, Be Creative! It has been very gratifying to see so
many Arleth students enjoying the public library's programs and collection
this summer!
Our newest incentive this year will be our Book Return Certificate Program
begun with last year's kindergarten classes. Each student will have their own
individual certificate with a chart listing each library class date. Each week
that books are returned on time, the student will receive a sticker to put on
his certificate. Students receiving a sticker for each library class of the
month will receive a gold Arleth All Star sticker at the end of the month and
a coupon good towards borrowing an extra book or a magazine. At the end of the
year, each student will have a completed certificate of achievement to bring
home!
We will continue to recycle printer cartridges and toners as well as old cell
phones. The money generated by this program helps fund extra supplies and
activities for the students.
We are also collecting gently used books for our used book sale in March as
part of our Read Across America Celebration. Funds support an Arleth Cares
cause such as the Giving Garden and the playground in the past. If you wish to
send in a donation, please make sure that the books are clean (no writing
inside) and not torn. Books should also be appropriate for children in grades
K-3.
The library program is fun and exciting for our students but we can only reach
our full potential with the help of our wonderfully dedicated Volunteers! If
you are available one morning or afternoon each week, we welcome your help.
Details will be sent home with a sign up slip during the first full week of
school.
Be sure to visit our media center on Back to School Night, Wed. Sept. 23. I
look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gunter
