What criteria is used for testing into the TAG Program in Lower Elementary?
The Talented & Gifted Program is for students that are in Grades 2 & 3. N.J. PASS test score - Grade 2: Passing grade of 65 or higher Highest grade is 72 total. Grade 3: Passing score of 75 or higher Highest grade is 82 total. To be tested, student must be advanced in both Math & Reading/Language areas and achieve a combined score or total listed above. In Grade 3 the CSI(Cognitive Skills Index) is another tool used. It is taken in Grade 2 usually in January. If student achieves a CSI score of 130 or higher, the child will be tested for TAG in Grade 3. Once this is achieved, a parent survey, teacher survey and creativity test will be administered. Three out of the five areas must be passed to make the program. Once a student is in the program, a letter of agreement is signed by the parent stating that all homeroom and TAG work will be done to the best of the child's ability. If not, suspension from the TAG Program or probationary period will be enforced. Once students are in the program, they are automatically in TAG until exit of the current school. Then, they must pass the new guidelines to be tested for TAG in their new school building. In grade 4, the results of the grade 3, NJ ASK test scores & CSI test score are used to identify participants. The combined ASK score must be a total of 500 or above or a CSI score of 130 or higher are the initiating criteria. Identification for Grade 4 TAG is completed in the fall at the Samsel Upper Elementary School.Back to Top

What does each TAG student need for class?
A TAG binder, inserts, pencil, pencil case holder and lightbulb eraser are given to each TAG student. The binder is to be kept clean, brought to TAG class and used each year in TAG.Back to Top

What is required of each TAG student?
All TAG students must complete one project in correlation to the year's theme. All homework/classwork in homeroom and TAG must be done and completed on time. Test grades need to be kept at a high level. Otherwise, a conference will be held and the child will be put on probation from the TAG program.Back to Top
When and how long is the TAG class?
Students attend one forty-five minute period per week in the TAG room in each school. Students are with children in the same grade level. The day depends upon their school location. The time is made according to various homeroom schedules. Friday is the rotation day. It is also the automatic make-up day if there is no school or I am absent on the regular day of class.
