Conference FAQ

If you have questions about conferences, you may find your answers here!

  2. What should I expect at my conference?

What time should I arrive for conferences? How long do conferences last?

Evening conferences are held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Afternoon
conferences are from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. You may arrive at any time
during those windows. Unfortunately, specific conference times
are not scheduled. Because of this, your wait may be
quite long. I recommend bringing some reading material, an
iPod, or a Sudoku or crossword puzzle to pass the time.

Depending upon the number of parents who sign up for evening or
afternoon conferences, your meeting may last between 5 and 10
minutes. Fewer parents tend to sign up for the afternoon
conferences, so those may be a bit longer.

What should I expect at my conference?

Because our time together is brief, I will send a questionnaire
home the week before conferences. Your answers will help me to
prepare for our conference and make the most of our time. Please
take a few moments to think about any questions or concerns you
may have, so that I can address these items while we are together.

When you arrive for conferences, please sign in. There will be
time slots listed, and I will meet with you in the order that
you arrive.

The length of conferences will be determined by the number of
people who have requested each day. For example, if 15 people
have signed up for the two hours on Monday night, conferences
will be 7 minutes long, with 1 minute between each. If only 10
people have signed up, the conferences will be 11 minutes long,
with 1 minute between each.

At the conference, I will share work and writing samples with
you. I will also discuss your child's strengths and any areas
that need improvement. Out of consideration for the other
parents who are waiting, we will conclude our conference at the
appropriate time. If you have additional concerns that we
were not able to discuss during our time together, I would
happy to follow up with a phone conference or an e-mail.
