Homework

Homework is an important part of your child's education. It
gives him/her a chance to reinforce skills that we are learning
each day in class. Written homework will be assigned every day
from Monday to Thursday. Reading vocabulary flash cards,
spelling words, and math addition and subtraction flash cards
should be practiced every weekend. It is also a great idea to
practice your spelling and reading notebooks each weekend!

I encourage you to help your child understand the directions
and monitor his/her progress on the daily homework worksheets.
It is important that you help your child fix mistakes on the spot
for immediate reinforcement. I also ask that you sign your
child's homework worksheets daily to show that you're aware of
your child's accomplishments.

In the beginning of each marking period, your child will
receive a homework grade of 100% for each subject. In the
event that there is a missing homework assignment, points will
be taken off that grade. At the end of each marking period,
the homework grade will be 10% of your child's grade for each
subject. Remember that this includes completing worksheets
and getting the spelling and reading notebook assignment
signed after practicing with an adult.

                                  Helpful Reminders

Monday - Please sign and return test papers.

Tuesday - Please practice and sign new list of spelling words in
the blue notebook. Also, remember it is very important to review
the previous lists in the spelling notebook, especially the
challenge words at the bottom of each word family.

Wednesday - Please practice and sign new reading work in the
black notebook. Also, remember to review previous assignments.
The reading vocabulary sight words need to be practiced
frequently for mastery. Please remember to return your library
book. We will be going to the library on Friday to borrow our
next book!

Thursday - Please practice for the spelling and reading tests
tomorrow.

Friday - Cut out and practice your new reading vocabulary flash
cards. Also, practice the new list of spelling words. The new
list of robust vocabulary words were also sent home today to learn.
Remember to practice your addition and subtraction flash cards too.
It is very important that the basic facts are learned. Remember
that this is a great time to practice both your spelling and
reading notebooks!
