How often does my child have instrumental music lessons?

Lessons are offered once a week on a rotating schedule. for example, If a child has a
lesson during first period, the next week's lesson will be during second period. The
rotating schedule enables the child to attend lessons and not miss the same
time and subject every week.

How long are the instrumental music lessons?

Instrumental music lessons are 30 - 40 minutes.

What does my child need to bring to the instrumental music lesson?

All students are expected to bring the instrument, the lesson book (Ed Sueta Band Method Book 1),
AND A PENCIL to every instrumental music lesson. The students WILL use a pencil at
every leeson so I consider the pencil AS IMPORTANT AS THE INSTRUMENT AND
LESSON BOOK.

When does my child bring the instrument to school?

Every child should bring his/her instrument to school on the morning of
their lesson and bring the instrument home after school on the same day. NO Instrument
should stay in the building over night.

Where should my child keep the lesson book?

The lesson book should be kept in the child's back pack. This will ensure
that the lesson book will come to school with the child every lesson and not be left
home on the music stand.

How often should my child practice?

The golden question. I recommend students practice between 15 and 20 minutes
a night. As a parent myself, I know how crazy schedules can be so I take this
realistic approach; It is better to practice 10 minutes six days a week than 30
minutes twice a week. Practicing an instrument utilizes muscles and motor skills that need
daily attention, just like exercising.

Will my child get homework every week?

Yes. A homework assignment will be given to each lesson group at the end of
every lesson.

How will I know what the homework assignment will be?

At the end of the lesson, that day's date will be written in the book above
the newly assigned exercises. The homework exercises due the next week will be circled
which will let the child know what to practice for the next week. Then the child
will write the homework assignment in the practice journal that is taped onto the front
inside cover of the lesson book.

How does the practice journal work?

You will see the homework assignment written in the practice journal
according to the week number we are on. After your child practices, he/she will write the
number of minutes for that session in the little boxes marked Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday,etc...for that night. At the end of the seven nights, you or your
child can total up the number of minutes practiced for the week. You will need to sign
or initial in the last box to the right marked parent's signature.

When will my child join the school concert band?

When a student completes the first six songs and the first five lessons of
the Ed Sueta Band Method Book 1. The student will be ready to join the
school concert band. The percussion students must complete Solo 2 of the
Alfred's Drum Method Book 1.

When will the concert band begin?

The concert band will begin rehearsing on the first week of January, after
the holiday break. By this time of the year, most students have completed
the first six songs and five lessons of the Ed Sueta Band Method Book 1. We
have enough students to assemble our concert band. Any student who has not
completed the first six songs and five lessons of the method book can still
join the concert band once this requirement is completed.
