Missing class time at the high school level is never easy, but if you are too sick to be in class or you are contagious, please stay home until you are well again. General Guidelines: Fever: A fever is considered a oral body temperature of 100 degrees or higher. A student should be fever free, without the use of fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Advil, for 24 hours before returning to school. Vomiting: The student should remain home for 12-24 hours after the vomiting has subsided Common Cold and Cough: If your symptoms are severe, stay home, get some rest and drink plenty of fluids. Consult your private health care professional regarding the appropriate use of over the counter cold and cough medications to reduce the severity of the symptoms. When returning to school, practice good hand washing to minimize the spread of germs to others. Unexplained Rash: Any rash, particulary one accompanied by a fever, should be evaluated by your health care professional before returning to school. A medical note clearing the student for attendance in school should be brought to the nurse. Conjunctivitis: Symptoms such as excessive drainage, severe redness and discomfort of the eye(s)should be evaluating by your health care professional to rule out the possibility of a viral or bacterial infection. A medical clearance note should be brought to the nurse upon returning to school.
