Announcements

We had a great letter "p" Show and Tell last week and the  children did wonderful.

This week, we begin our Feather Fun project.  The children will be excited to receive a feather for each task that they complete, so please work with your child on this project.  We begin on Monday with the children reciting their first and last name and their birthdate.  When we get to the task of naming words with the beginning "s" sound, please have them name words that begin with the sound of "s" as in Sam and not the "sh" sound.

Because our first report card will be distributed in February, we think it is important to share information with you about how your child is succeeding in Kindergarten. This week, we will be sending you a Progress Report which may help you to understand key components to their success.  You are not required to sign the report or return it to us.  There are half days on Thursday and Friday since the upper grades have Parent/Teacher conferences.  Since we are let out earlier on these days, there will be no lunch on these days.

In Religion, the children will learn that growth is a lifelong process.  They will also realize that we grow as Christians by showing love for others.

In Math, we end our chapter as the children use logical reasoning to solve problems with numbers using clues.  A practice sheet will be sent home, since this lesson may be a little confusing to some of our little ones.  They will also be using ordinal numbers from first to fifth to show positions.

In ILA, our new themed unit is on Transportation.  We will discuss the vehicles we see that move around town, how we get to school and what various vehicles do (taxi - takes people around town).  Our beginning letter sound is "Tt" as in taxi, and our new word for the week is "see".  We will also be demonstrating and recognizing action words (verbs).

We will have a Veteran's Day assembly on Wednesday and we will be making "Thank You" cards for our veterans.

We  begin learning the meaning of Thanksgiving and we continue with stories, songs and special projects as we get closer to the holiday.

The Scholastic Book sale will be set up this Thursday and Friday.  If you would like to have your child purchase a book or item at the fair, please send in some money with your child's name on the envelope.  Otherwise, when we go on Thursday, we can write down a book that your child is interested in and send it home for your approval and Friday's purchase.  For the hours, please look in the Communication envelope.  You may want to take your child at another time.

Last, but not least, I hope to see you at this Friday's Basket Raffle.  I have been going for years and lucked out a couple of times, but it is a night out and lots of beautiful prizes are handed out.  Come with your family or friends and enjoy the stress free evening!

Thanks and have a great week!
