Hi, first let me share important notices about this week.
On Tuesday,Dec.1st. the Kindergarten will attend the St.Nick Sale at school.
At this sale, inexpensive gift items are offered. If you would like to have
your child take part in this "shopping" event, please send in their money in
an envelope or baggie marked with your child's name. Most children
participate, even if it is to buy one gift or something for themselves. The
items are usually priced $1.00 and higher. Please make of list of the people
your child will buy for and an approximate amount to spend. We are scheduled
to shop at 12 and there are usually "helpers" that take the children around.
Other helpers will gift wrap the presents. Most years there is a "special
visitor" as well. I remember when my own sons shopped at the sale. They got
such a kick out of shopping themselves, and couldn't wait to give me their
present.
Sunday, Dec.6 is the feast of St. Nicholas. It is a tradition at our school
to follow the legend and put out a shoe or slipper for him to fill with a
treat. Please send in an old or not needed shoe or slipper by THURSDAY,DEC.3,
we are hoping for a visit by St.Nick on Friday. The shoe/slipper will be
returned.
Sunday, Nov. 29 is the first Sunday of Advent. A paper Advent wreath and
activity info will be sent home for your child to do during this preparation
season.
On Thursday, Dec.3, the school will enjoy our Christmas concert (band and
chorus) during the school day. There will also be a performance open to all
at night.
Looking ahead to next week. On Friday, Dec.11 our annual school Christmas
Show will take place. The children will perform in the dress rehearsal during
the day to prepare for the actual show in the evening. The performance will
be open to all and will begin at 7PM. The children will need to be dropped
off at the classroom for the evening performance. I will give you more
details as soon as we confirm the time.
Our Religion lesson this week is all about Advent. The children will
understand the significance of the season and preparing their hearts for the
birth of Jesus. They will also be learning about the life of St. Nicholas.
In Math, we will work on probability and chance. This is an introduction to
this concept. Our lessons will finish up on "plane" shapes. Then we will
begin "solid" shapes, such as, cube, rectangular prism, sphere, cyclinder,
cone, and pyramid.
This week we are working on the medial sound of /i/ and/a/. We review
charcter and plot in different stories and identify final sounds of the
consonants that we have learned thus far. Then, we begin a new unit with Food
as the theme. Our new High-Frequency word is "to". Please continue to
practice these sight words with your child. By adding a noun, we will
construct sentences using our sight words.(e.g. I can go to the "store".) The
letter Nn will be written and identified in words. As always, we will blend
letter sounds to make words.
