Announcements

 Hello everyone!
Reminders: Thursday,Nov.12 and Friday,Nov.13 are 11:30AM EARLY DISMISSAL days
due to conferences in Grades 1-8. The children WILL NOT eat lunch in school
those days. Kindergarten conferences will take place in February. I will be
sending home a Kindergarten progress report this week. If anyone has any
questions or concerns, please send me a note or call the office for me to
make an appointment. Thank you, as always, for you help and cooperation.
I am planning ahead to Thanksgiving. By the way, thank you for helping with
the pumpkins and the sentence. Traditionally, my class makes butter (with
heavy cream) and spreads it on corn muffins or corn bread to symbolize the
Pigrims' first thanksgiving. If any child would be allergic to anything
involved, please let me know so that I can take the proper precautions.

This week in Religion, the children will realize that human growth is a
lifelong process of changes. The will understand that they grow as Christians
as well, by showing love to others and being more like Jesus. We will discuss
Baptism and anointing. I will read the Bible story "David, the Shepherd King"
to them, as well.

In Math, we will finish our chapter on numbers 1-5 and ordinals first-fifth.
Our next unit is Geometry, Fractions, and Probability. It concentrates on
identifying plain shapes, making them into pictures, and using them to extend
patterns.

As we integrate Math into Language Arts, the chilren will find these same
shapes in our Big book story THE BUS FOR US. We will also read the fable "The
Turtle and the Rabbit" as we compare the two stories and use our "making
predictions" reading skills. We review the High-Frequency words "like"
and "a" and introduce the word "see". The children will write the
letter "Tt"(easy!)and identify its sound. The children will continue to blend
sounds to make words. They are doing very well with this skill and enjoy
identifying the word that I am sounding out.
