Good day everyone!! The children are definitely excited about Christmas. Our Christmas show this year is Christmas around the world. They have been practicing their song and looking forward to the show on Friday. The show begins at 7PM, but the children are usually brought to the classroom around 6:30PM. Please keep in mind that the auditorium fills up quickly, and seating is not reserved. They may dress up in their Christmas finery if you like, or any nice clothes will do. The children will stay in the classroom during the show and will come out when they perform their song and again with the entire school for the finale. Have your cameras ready. You don't want to miss the re- enactment of the Nativity by the Eighth Graders at the end. At the end of the show, please have one parent come to the classroom to pick-up your child. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation. Remember:Tuesday, Dec.8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. School is closed in observance of the Holy day. This week is Religion, our chapter is about choosing. We will discuss how choosing can sometimes be difficult. The children will understand that God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus and that she chose to say "yes". They will learn to imitate Mary by saying yes to those who tell them what God wants them to do, such as, their parents and teachers. We have begun to work with solid shapes. The children are mastering the terms: sphere, cube, rectangular prism, cone, pyramid, and cylinder. They have identified these shapes in their environment(tissue box, soup can, birthday hat,etc.). This week they will identify the plane shape drawn by tracing one side of a solid shape.(e.g. square from a cube) In Integrated Language Arts/Word Literacy, we are working on identifying the sound of /n/ in both the initial and final position. We added the sight word "to" to our High-Frequency words. Please keep practicing with the flash cards, they are doing well. Blending is always a part of our lessons, and some of the children tell me they are "sounding out" words at home. GREAT!! Our story theme is FOOD with a concentration on fruits and vegetables this week. Our comprehension strategy is recognizing the sequence of a story. That's all for now. We look forward to seeing you on Friday. Have a great week!!
