Dear Parents,
This week we have been working on stories that have something to do with
monsters. I don't know why but I love this topic.
Some of our books talk about what makes us scared and we discuss how to
deal with this feeling and some things that can help us get over it, like a
flashlight on our nightstand, a nightlight in our room or hallway, closing
our closet door and making sure that our windows are locked. We also talked
about dreams and how we are the ones having dreams and so we are the ones who
are in control of our dreams. If there is something in our dream that is
scary to us well then we can make ourselves bigger and scarier than the
monster and be the winner in our dreams. We also spoke about turning over
and how that will help change our dream. (I read that somewhere when my
children were little and it seemed to help them.)
Another discussion that we have been having is about manners. Monster
manners are way out there and how good human manners get us what we want with
the respect that we want from others.
Some of our big books that we have been reading are "The Three Billy
Goats Gruff" and "Jack in the Beanstalk" which both have monster/giant type
creatures as one of the characters. We have acted out the 3 billy goats
gruff with masks and it is hysterical to see some of the shyest children
really show themselves off with their acting abilities.
Along with this topic we have also been learning the letter "Gg" and its
hard sound. We have played games, completed some lessons and taken some work
home to practice. We have started a new homework bag but it will take a
little longer to get through the class because we have only one book to share
in each class.
I am sending home a memo inviting all of you to join us during American
Education week and become a part of our classroom for an hour of your day.
We hope that you can join us but understand if work gets in the way. Enjoy
your weekend coming.
