For the past 25 years, I have been proud to call myself a special
educator! In 1984, after having earned my Master's Degree in the area of
special education, I took a teaching position in an elementary school in
Rahway for five years before coming to Terrill Middle School. I continue to
partake in relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences both in and out of
district, so as to hone my skills and expand my knowledge in regard to the
many facets of this challenging, yet rewarding field. In 2004, I was awarded a
scholarship to partake in a two year graduate program and therefore, I am now
additionally certified as an Orton-Gillingham teacher. I completed this
intensive training in May of 2006 having attained a higher level of
proficiency in teaching children who demonstrate evidence of reading
disabilities.
I truly enjoy teaching as much as I love learning! Without
question, I have gained invaluable insight from my students as the years
have passed and for this, I am eternally grateful. My hope is to continue to make
a difference in those lives as well...
On a personal note, I have exciting and wonderful news to share... Two
years ago my husband and I travelled to China in order to adopt a precious
child from the Jiangxi Province. Sydney is is now three years old and simply
the love of our lives!! She has enriched our world more than she will ever
know!!!!
For all those who pass through my door, I hope to convey this simple
message: every individual can most assuredly be a successful learner in
life....they may merely need to take a different path. It is my goal to
guide all of my students along that path in order to empower them and
provide them with the necessary tools (strategies!)in order to achieve.
Consequently, they'll be better equipped to build upon their strengths and
therefore, compensate for their weaknesses. My wish for all of my students is
for them to acquire the necessary confidence to not just survive in this
world, but more importantly, to lead happy, productive and meaningful lives...
