About The Teacher

I have been a teacher for 41 years.  I have my masters degree plus 45 hours.  
I hold a current NJ Science Teaching Certificate and a NJ Science Supervisors 
Certificate grades K-12.  I have spent 30 years teaching public school 
science.  I have devoted my career to teaching and improving my academics.

SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
PHILOSOPHY, GOALS AND INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES

WITH REGARD TO THE UTILIZATION OF THE SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY IN THE SCIENCE 
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL DECISION MAKING, THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT HAS 
ESTABLISHED THESE GOALS.

1.	TO PROVIDE AN EDUCATION IN THE FIELD OF SCIENCE FOR ALL STUDENTS 
WITHIN OUR SCHOOL.

2.	TO HELP THE STUDENTS TO LEARN TO USE WISELY AND EFFECTIVELY THE 
NATURAL RESOURCES OF OUR EARTH AS WELL AS THE PRODUCTS OF SCIENCE AND 
TECHNOLOGY.

3.	TO HELP THE STUDENTS IDENTIFY RELEVANT INFORMATION, LEARN THE 
TECHNIQUES OF CRITICAL ANALYSIS, MAKE INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENTS, AND PREPARE 
PRESENTATIONS OF THEIR POSITIONS.

4.	TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WITH BASIC SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES AND INTER-
RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH WHICH THEY CAN BETTER UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE THE 
NATURE OF THE EARTH, ITS INHABITANTS, AND THE UNIVERSE.

5.	TO PROVIDE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MENTAL AND 
PHYSICAL SCIENTIFIC SKILLS, INCLUDING PROBLEM SOLVING, THE READING OF 
SCIENTIFIC MATERIALS AND THE COMMUNICATION OF SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION.

6.	TO HELP THE STUDENTS ACQUIRE THE INFORMATION, UNDERSTANDING, AND 
APPRECIATIONS THAT WILL CONTRIBUTE POSITIVELY TO THEIR EDUCATIONAL, 
VOCATIONAL, AND RECREATIONAL INTERESTS.

7.	TO HELP THE STUDENTS TO BE AWARE OF THE UNCERTAINTY OF MAN’S 
KNOWLEDGE, OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF ONE’S VALUES AND ACTIONS, AND THE GREAT 
AMOUNT OF THOUGHT WHICH HAS ENABLED MAN TO DEVELOP HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD.

8.	TO HELP THE STUDENTS THINK CRITICALLY ABOUT CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES BY 
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADEQUATE INSTRUCTION CONCERNING SOCIAL FORCES AND 
TRENDS.

9.	TO SATISFY THE BASIC NEEDS OF ALL PEOPLE TO BE CREATIVE, TO BELONG 
WITH A GROUP, AND TO BE INDEPENDENT.

10.	TO INSTILL IN STUDENTS A DESIRE TO KNOW AND TO UNDERSTAND, A DESIRE 
TO QUESTION THINGS, A DESIRE TO SEARCH FOR DATA AND MEANING, THE NEED TO 
DEMAND VERIFICATION, A RESPECT FOR LOGIC, AND A DESIRE TO CAREFULLY CONSIDER 
PREMISES AND CONSEQUENCES.

11.	TO HELP THE STUDENTS LEARN TO LIVE AND WORK WITH OTHERS, ACCEPT 
INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES, DEVELOP MUTUAL RESPECT AND RESOLVE CONFLICTS.
