H E L L O ! Hope you enjoy your holidays.
We will be using an Art Rubric as a means of marking artwork
this year. New idea. It is a bit of a change---but change is good! That's in
We are also using a new grading system at Roosevelt, Gradebook. I am a
time user. I still need to adapt it to "my style" of marking. Still
I see no reason on earth to give my students a "0" for a grade. Any
Incomplete Projects will equal a "75-80" and Missing Projects will
equal "60". The final mark is very close to their actual earned effort/grade.
I encourage, not discourage them to succeed.
To the Parents that use the Parent Portal, the students have till "my
closing day, usually a week before the School's official date, to finish any
projects. They know that date very well because I sound like a broken CD
telling them. That's due to having the entire school population to mark(400).
We sometimes have a vote as to what projects should and shouldn't be
included, because of days off and assemblies that might have cancelled their
classes. Very democratic.
3rd Grade- Organic Shapes--We will use Paul Cezanne as motivation. They
might be done in time to show them off at Thanksgiving.
4th Grade-Masquerade Masks-design and jazz them up. Then Cezanne, 3D Still
Life. Good enough to eat!
5th Grade-The Day of the Dead , "Dia de los Muertos" skulls and paper
cuttings.Hung around the Art Room. Very festive.
Next, we are spoofing the famous painting, "American Gothic", wait
till you see what they come up with.
Norman Rockwell appreciation after that.
6th Grade-3D Mask Painting
We will be painting 3D styrofoam masks with acrylic paints. They will
add jewels, feathers, Beads,
glitter paints and the kitchen sink to them.
Then Egyptian scratch art. We work along with the 6th grade SS textbook.
If they are on Egypt, we try to be on Egyptian artwork.
