Test on Mercy Carter. Know vocabulary from Word Wall. You should be able to
answer the following: When the time comes, Mercy Carter decides not to be
ransomed but to stay with her Indian family. It can be argued that her life
with the Indians was better than her life with the Puritans in Deerfield.
Why do you think Mercy decides to stay in Kahnawake?
You must present both sides—Indian and Puritan. If you give a reason why her
life was better with the Indians, you must also describe her life with the
Puritans. Example: As an Indian child Mary enjoyed wearing jewelry. She
liked having pierced ears. As a Puritan, she was forbidden to wear jewelry.
In the story, Ruth told Mercy wearing jewelry was a sin.
You may use your book and graphic organizers to answer this question during
the test.
There will also be sections on character traits and point of view.
You really don't study for this test. You organize your notes and thoughts.
You may also put post-its in your book.
Good luck!
