Fun Activities for Home

Working with words can be simple and fun! Listed below are some games and activities that I've
found to be both enjoyable and educational.
1. MadLibs - helps child identify parts of speech (adjectives, adverbs, nouns, etc.) The
students in my class LOVE this because it results in silly stories.
2. Boggle - a game where you have to come up with as many words as you can using the selected
rolled letters in 3 minutes.
3. Scrabble and Scrabble Jr. - a good game to practice making words and spell them correctly.
4. Apples to Apples - such a fun game! enhances students vocabulary with synonyms and includes
decision making as well! :)
5. Shaving Cream Spelling - spread shaving cream onto a cleared area and have your child practice writing their spelling words in it. It's a fun,
hands-on activity to practice spelling. :) You can do this with sand as well.
6. Thank-you Notes - whenever an opportunity arrises for your child to write a thank you note to someone, have them write one! Not only does
this teach appreciation, but it is a PERFECT opportunity for writing!
7. MATH FACTS! Get those facts addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts mastered while driving, cooking dinner, you name it!
