Spelling Assignments
There are nine different assignments. You are required to complete two different assignments by
Friday of each week. You may not repeat an assignment during any single unit in reading. It is your
responsibility to keep track of what assignment you have done each week. If you repeat an
assignment you will need to redo it.
1) ABC order, 2 times each. Please put in 2 neat columns. Each word must be identified by the
part
of speech the word is as well. Example: chair (n)
2) Spelling paragraph: Choose at least 10 spelling words and create an interesting paragraph.
Make
sure that you have one general theme for your paragraph. Each spelling word needs to be
underlined. Each paragraph needs to have at least 2 different examples of figurative language.
These
examples need to be highlighted. At the end of the sentence you must identify what type of
figurative language you used.
3) Spelling letter: Choose at least 10 spelling words and write an interesting letter. Please include
all parts of a friendly letter (return address, opening, body, and closing). Each letter needs to have
at
least 2 different examples of figurative language. These examples need to be highlighted. At the
end
of the sentence you must identify what type of figurative language you used.
4) Create a crossword puzzle, using at least 10 spelling words. The crossword puzzle must be
hand-done. This assignment may not
be computer generated. The assignment must be on graph paper, the clues need to be interesting,
there needs to be a word bank, and an answer key.
5) Write 10 creative questions, each answer is to be a different spelling word. Please include the
answer next to each question.
6) Write 10 creative sentences, each sentence is to include one spelling word that has been
underlined. Each sentence needs to have at least 1 example of figurative language. These examples
need to be highlighted. At the end of the sentence you must identify what type of figurative
language
you used. You must use at least 4 different types of figurative language, and in addition at least 5 of
your sentences need to have a magic three.
7) Create your own poem, using at least 10 spelling words. You will be reading it to the class.
8) Write a song using at least 10 spelling words. You must use the tune of a common song.
Please
write the name of the song that you are using the tune from at the bottom of your paper. You will
be
performing it for the class (with a little help from your classmates).
9) Choose 12 words and look up the definition of each. Read and think about the definition, and
then put the definition into your own words. The definition needs to be in a complete sentence.
