Welcome to Family Consumer Science! In this class we will be working on the following topics: writing a consumer letter to a manufacturer, hand and machine sewing, writing and balancing checks, working in the kitchen safely and preparing breakfast foods, washing their own clothes, and workplace skills like filling out a job application. September/October Students will be working on writing a business letter to a manufacturer of their choice on a complement, suggestion, or complaint. Students will be responsible in getting their own address to whom they would like to write to and the current postage stamp to send their letter out. November/December Students will have a better understanding what it's like in the job world and their responsibilities on the job. Students will be working in the text "World of Work" January to Present Working in the kitchen- Students will learn kitchen basics- safety, abbreviations,measuring, manners, table setting, classroom procedures and reading recipes.The recipes students will prepare are all breakfast foods cinnamon toast using the new white whole wheat bread, oatmeal, egg in the hole, breakfast rolls, and home fry potatoes. Students need to have all classwork, tests, and handouts completed one day prior to the day they are to cook to participate in the cooking activities, plus they need follow all classroom regulations for the safety of all students. In this unit students will be using the Apple laptops working with Bento2 creating their recipe formats, if they have favorite recipes that they would like to bring in they may do so if not I will provide recipes for them. Students who meet 11:00 and 1:30 will use the laptops Febuary 19 to March 9th and those students who met 7:45 and 10:00 will use the laptops starting in April.
