Acceleration Lab: The Language Arts Team works in partnership with the classroom teachers on a daily
basis. In a small group setting, students have the opportunity to preview and expand the regular
language arts program. The instruction will include vocabulary, phonics, comprehension, writing skills,
and guided reading with leveled books. Upon completion of each unit students are assessed with an
end of the unit test. The Language Arts teachers and the classroom teachers
analyze results and collaboratively create lessons and activities for skills needed.
DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills): DIBELS is an assessment used to identify
students that may be at risk in the area of reading development. Research shows that the earlier the
intervention the better chance the students will achieve success in reading.
The entire school is tested three times a year (fall, winter, and spring). The data from this testing allows
student groups to be formed to remediate specific sequential skills. The following skills include:
(ISF) Initial Sound Fluency
(LNF) Letter Naming Fluency
(PSF) Phoneme Segmentation Fluency
(NWF) Nonsense Word Fluency
(ORF) Oral Reading Fluency
Fundations: is a supplemental multisensory program for phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and
fluency. This program is used in conjunction with the Macmillan/ McGraw Hill Reading Series. The
teacher offers explicit instruction by directly teaching all skills through modeling. All
learning involves active participation providing learning through various modalities and helping
maintain the students' focus. Student responses are given immediate positive feedback. Fundations
will continue to be implemented in kindergarten and first grade and is beginning this year in second
grade.
Math Supplemental Program: Mrs. Comby will preview, teach, review, and reteach concepts of
Mathematics based upon the classroom teacher's recommendation and unit test results. The program
will allow for flexibility depending on the concepts being implemented and the students' needs.
