Pre-School and Kindergarten children occasionally have
"bathroom" accidents during the school day. In order to prevent embarassment
for your child, I recommend you do the following:
-
Pack a spare set of clothing (pants/shorts, underwear, socks
and shirt) in your child's backpack.
-
Put your child's name on the bag of clothes.
-
Be sure your child uses the bathroom at home, before they get
on the bus in the morning.
-
Encourage your child to use the bathroom @ school before they
go to lunch and again before the end of the day.
-
If your child "REALLY MUST GO, NOW", and someone else is using
the bathroom, explain to them there are other bathrooms outside the classroom.
They need to ask the teacher to use another bathroom.
-
Tell your child not to hold it in. This is usually the reason
for accidents!
-
If there is a medical reason for your child's accidents,
please share this information with the nurse or your child's teacher.
-
If your child does not know how to clean (wipe) themselves,
please practice this at home. Teachers will not be able to assist your child
in this task.
-
Encourage your child to wash their hands after using the
bathroom.
